Just down the street from Abbotís Cellar. Really dark and cramped inside and surprisingly busy. Tap list was nothing special for any bar, let alone a beer place. Just a lot of beers you can get anywhere for less. No band playing during my stop, which sounds like a good thing. I see no reason to come here as a beer drinking stop.

Visited March 19, 2013.
Didnt stick around very long because they wanted a $5 cover to see some crappy band. I just wanted a beer. Then I looked at tap list and saw Anchor Steam, Stella, and Red Seal, not that thereís anything wrong with those but I didnt see aything more interesting than that.
Ambiance is too noisy to enjoy as a bar if thereís a band playing and the cover charge basically doubles the price of your first drink.
Scroll past, save the $5.

Hipster bar, nice drinks, loud music and not a convenient location unless you live in the haight.

Had some Magnolia beers on tap and a few other brews also. Crowded and noisy. Not my kind of place.

One of the most rad new beer and music bars Iíve been in with hot beers and taps in a super cool setting with an old bar, tall ceilings, red lighting and an overall dark yet comfortable atmosphere. Owner Shawn has given the love and Iíd love to live walking distance to this place. I think thereís live music nightly...can get packed. The chalkboard lists the beers, generally imitating the beer companys unique font, esp. noticable for Belgians. Itís the little details that make this place shine. Fine stage, decent acoustics, wonderful ambience. Taps are broken into lighter, darker and Belgians. I was there 4/30/07 and they had: Speakeasy Prohibition, Racer 5, Reality Czeck, HeBrew Genesis, Lagunitas seasonal Lenny Bruce IPA, Death and Taxes, Humboldt, Stella, Hoegarten, Chimay, Delerium, LaChouffe, Maredsous. Bottles included Affligem,Blanch de Chambly, Duvel, Tripel Karm., Chimay, Maudite, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Trois Pistoles. I went on a Monday eve figuing it would be slow...wrong! First was a live singer-songwriter, then a decent bluegrass band. Like d.b.a. in New Orleans, one can get a darn good fix of music and great beer in a wonderful setting. Iíll look forward to my next visit!

kind of funny to see a place like this in the Mission District, but hey, theyíve got some good beers. you can usually get a hard to find CA brew, and they haev nice belgians on the list too. dark like some of the other bars in the area, funky red velvet curtain at the entrance, dark inside with some local art.

This place is a fifteen minute walk from my house, so itís got that goiní for it. Very dark interior, with a nice mix of hipsters and after-workers inside. Bartenders know their stuff, and when something isnít available, they are ready with a second choice that fits the bill. Good prices, and the selection is great. Maybe my new hangout.

Worth the cab ride. Although when I hit this place, evening on a weekend, it was crowded and there was a cover, the beer list was surprisingly good. If I recall, I got Duc d Borg felmish sour. There were a few beer son the chalkboard Iíd not had, but it was late and Iíd been at Toronado all day. I could see this being a good stop early if youíre looking for a good beer bar, and a great stop later on if youíre looking for a nightcap at a joint with music and much better beers than 99% of other bars around.

Did they get a new ownership since 1999/2000? It used to have a plethora of Belgians- or maybe I was drunk. Either way the ambiance is still great, and the bartenders are still very attentive and answer questions. The selection seems smaller than it once was. They have a good handle on the stemware, and know how to pour. Need to find out the skinny on where the large assortment of Belgians went. Maybe when the economy comes back, weíll see more selection, as people start throwing money around on more exotic brews!!!
