Clean, and dark, quite spacious. Like a sophisticated English pub, but without the yuppies. Cask ales, rotating regularly, but alas the selection isn’t fantastic. Or at least it wasn’t until about 2012, but their bottled selection is now as good as almost any other oluthuone apart from Kaisla. Real ale always on tip-top condition, the cellarman really knows how to treat a delicate product.

One of the oldest (if not the oldest) English- style pub in Helsinki, near the Kamppi shopping center. This is definitely a place better enjoyed in the winter, as the interior is pretty dark, murky, with darts and boardgames to keep you entertained. The service will vary depending on the mood of the bartender, and the standard selection is not that wide. But with a couple of real-ale taps, and a good history of importing top-class bottles from different places, it is one of my favorite beer pubs in this city.

One out of handful of places with real ale casks in Helsinki. Pretty nice English style bar, apparently has history of 35 years. Apart from the real ales, the selection mostly has things that are very common everywhere. Food consists mostly of mediocre toasts and peanuts.

A large and nice enough place, has real ale on cask. Nice and inviting, not a very large selection though. Mostly English and Finnish stuff.

Good service and seasonal real ales. Good beers althought selection’s isn’t huge. Good atmosphere but quite noisu when full. Still good place to drink ale and play chess.

Street corner pub that really looked like a typical English pub. Two English real ale on cask, both from Dark Star. Relaxed, inviting and friendly atmosphere. Part of the Oluthuone places in the Finnish capital. Only a short walk from Villi Wäino or the Bruuveri (pub crawl with Matti in Helsinki, 06.02.2011).
