There’s definitely an East-West split in Edinburgh when it comes to bottle shops. Over East there’s Cornelius, at Haymarket Appellation Wines. Run by the extremely enthusiastic Ashton, Appellation stocks maybe 100 beers – a good range of Scottish, American craft beer, and German labels. Gets the occasional rarer item in but due to space constraints the range doesn’t very as much as Cornelius maybe. But the tastings held there and the helpful advice put it over the edge (plus it’s closer to my flat). A bottle shop that stocks every beer by Fyne Ales and Highland can’t be doing much wrong. Great range of wines too, if that’s your thing. Can be a little pricey though - but you certainly get what you pay for.

Small specialist wine & beer store very close to Haymarket Station. Managed by a friendly Ratebeer enthusiast and carries a great selection of interesting Scottish & international beers. Has good beer tasting evenings. A must visit if passing through Haymarket station.

Of the three off licenses in Edinburgh (Appellation, Cornelius, Great Grogg), Appellation has a selection, both amount of craft beer and size of selection, that is either the best or close to it. Additionally, the shop has fortnightly beer tastings, offering customers the ability to taste new beers that have come in as well as introducing craft beer to newcomers. One may find that selection does not rotate quickly but there are perhaps 130 different beers to choose from in the shop.
