One of the the best beer gardens in the world; huge; great Augustiner Edelstoff in the barrel; did not eat; but food looked tasty; within walking distance from the train station;

Visited mostly in the downstairs dungeon.Loud, live schlager-disco music and service far below expectations in Germany. Upstairs at least it was possible to hold a conversation. The Edeltoff served from wood tasted terribly industrial and wasn’t worth a visit. On top of all this, I had a really boring, dry schnitzel. Only go here drunk, in order to stand on tables, sing along and act silly

Well went the night before although hours said they were open we couldn’t get a beer. Came the next day for lunch, traditional German fare, nice selection of their beers room with lots of older Germans. Some young folk drinking age is 16 in Germany The keller looked like it could be fun at night.

Our party of 18 people had reserved tables at a very crowded cellar room with bricked ceilihg and walls, long tables and benches. Band playing German Schlagers and international pop tunes at an extremely high noise level. Very hard to get a proper conversation running without shouting. Beers OK, but nothing special, food ok and came quickly but it was only luke warm. Far better in the flloor above, better service better beers, price level sensible.

Easy walk from train station. Enjoyed the beer hall and service. Food was very good. Must do for beer fans. The English menus did not list the dunkel. It is on tap and our waiter was happy to have us ask for it. This was my personal favorite Helles.

Visited the Biergarten on a sunny evening. Drinking in a Biergarten as big as this is an experience. The interiors were traditional & had a lot of seating space. The atmosphere outside was so lively, fun & noisy but all part of the experience. They had just 2 or 3 beers on tap. We opted for the self service system. The queues were long but service was fast. The food was just ok but the prices were good. A definite stop for a beer lover to experience a special ambiance. P.S : Do make an attempt to visit the interiors of the restaurant & also do visit the seating area at the cellar.

Visited 25/4/2014 when it was very busy on a sunny Friday afternoon. Despite the crowds, service was rapid and we were able to find seats in the garden, where the atmosphere was very lively without getting out of hand. The Edelstoff from the barrel was very drinkable and the pretzels tasty. A great location to visit.

This was a Monday afternoon and we were pretty tired. We were slightly primed by the half liter ticks at Lowenbrau shortly before this stop but ya see, we flew Ryanair from "Stockholm" to "Munich/Memmingem". Getting to the "Stockholm"/Skavsta airport requires taking a bus about 70 minutes east of the city through the forests and over the hills to an airport that consists of 3 gates and a cafeteria that serves beer at all hours. Memmingen is equally ridiculous and not at all near the city it advertises to be near. 110 km away. I’m pretty sure this is privately owned and just a piece of some farmers corn field. No fence surrounding the place, just some fields, a small terminal, and a low approach vector coming very close to the barn. 3 hours total driving and 2 hours flying. This was all after not sleeping since we decided to tick another couple dozen pale lagers in the hotel room in Stockholm before the bus left.
So a couple of weary travelers walk into a bar and are directed down into the basement which goes down a couple stories. All brick, high arched ceilings, and some nice artwork as well as a huge barrel that has been cut out to include a table and some seating. Very cool. Service was a bit slow, actually it was very slow, but once they came we got all the drinks and food we could handle. I would definitely bring people here to hang out. Outside would be nice too but it was raining. They have some booths and tables and lighting. The food is good but typical "traditional" German food and the beer was of course good. The food was fairly reasonably priced too.
This happened to be very close to where they hold the Oktoberfest celebration which was evidenced by the low line of drunk Americans stumbling down the sidewalk. Naturally this was the next destination.
