In New Orleans, this beer bar is pretty much as good as it gets for beer. The selection is quite vast. The ambiance is casual and unpretentious. The bartenders are chill. The bar food is good enough.
This place reminds me a lot of Maxís Taphouse in Baltimore. At first glance, it looks like a normal sports bar, but upon any inspection of the tap list, you realize it is something much, much more than that. The draft selection is by itself pretty great, but for those who like looking at bottles, I am sure you will find some gueuze or sour that strikes your fancy. The beers are also very reasonably priced. Unlike New York, DC, or Philadelphia that serve tiny snifters of the high-end stuff for $10-$14 dollars, here a 6 ounce pour of an Italian gose was a mere $6.
Fortunately, this bar also has a wonderful selection of local beers.
We ordered some onion rings. They appeared to have been home-made and not frozen, which has ups and downs to it, but all in all is a big plus.
The crowd was pretty nice, except there was an extremely drunk girl causing problems and a bunch of homeless people outside trying to hit you up for money (or trying to sell a dubiously acquired bicycle). But, I canít blame the bar for that. The bartenders were also willing to call a cab for people who didnít want to wade through the rabble.

Visited on New Yearís eve on our trip to New Orleans. Old school pub like environment with a downstairs bar with over 40 taps, seats outside, upstairs bar with 9 taps and a patio. Sat at the bar and had great selection to choose from. Once you start a tab you could get a beer from the bottom or upstairs bar. The staff was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with during our 3 hours there. A great list that was accurate and up to date. The bottle list was pretty good and not overpriced for some the more rare bottles. The food looked good but we didnít try so donít want to rate it here. The prices were great and overall a great beer destination in New Orleans. A must visit beer bar. Cheers!

My favorite beer bars in my favorite city. Send upstairs on the deck and check out iconic St. Charles, where the parade goes by every Mardi Gras.

Comments: Avenue Pub is a quick trolley ride from the French Quarter area down St Charles St. Itís an unassuming row house with a small sign. Interior is cramped, two stories with a different tap list upstairs. Bourbon and Scotch list was extensive with small pours available. Bottle list included 3F Hommage, but was for sale for $60 I believe. Tap list included Jolly Pumpkin, Magic Rock, Stillwater, and a few other specialties. Tap lines seemed clean. Food looked good. Staff checked on keg freshness for me, pulled out an inventory sheet to make sure a hoppy beer on was fresh. As always in nola, smoking is allowed inside and you can take beer to go as long as it is in a non-glass container. Theyíll give you plastic cups to go. Very fun, not to be missed. Pours ranged from about $6-8.

We visited a weekday evening. Downstairs is smoking, good to know if you like me hate that. Upstairs and balcony is non-smoking. however. Good draft list, good bottle list, but nothing exceptional. Staff was sort of absent-minded, and some of the beer on their bottle list wasnít available.

Sort of dingy looking old two-story house that works as a fun dive bar/ home setup. Outdoor and patio seating available to escape the smoke. They have a really nice selection that pays respect to local beers but has a large tap selection from around the US. Really good prices, attentive staff willing to give samples. Iíd definitely go back.

Old, with a lot of character. Indoor seating with high tops and a bar that stretches the full length of the bar from front to rear. A few TVs. Friendly bar staff. An impressive beer list. Unique pub fare. Upstairs with a balcony and a small downstairs, street-side patio. No smoking in the upstairs bar.

A definate dive like bar, smoking and non smoking with nooks, crannies and outdoor areas. Both times the bartenders have been awesome and I had a great time. Selection is great, with a pretty impressive bottle selection as well. Food is fresh made and pretty decent. Prices are a bit high, but staff is generous. Overall, lots of fun in NOLA.

Stopped by during a recent trip to Louisiana. Awesome bar near the Garden District. Parking is on the street but when we went finding a spot was not an issue. Had a very nice selection of both imports, domestic and local beers. Staff was generally helpful and seemed to know about the beers they were pouring. I had heard a lot about this place and was prepared to be let down, but it lived up to the hype. While there was nothing "rare" on tap, the selection was very good and I had some great beers.

Place rating #1100.

Upon first glance it doesnít look like much but when you either 1) explore the property and see the multiple bars and the neat patio on the roof and in the back or 2) look closer at the tap list youíll see why this place is so highly rated. Also, Iím sure that the general crappiness of the NOLA beer scene makes this place look that much more awesome. They have several dozen taps and will sell 4oz glasses of pretty much everything. They also have a good amount of bottles. On tap I had a glass of the Hill Farmstead / Blaugies saison and it was very nice. Smaller glasses of half a dozen other beers were ordered as well for the sake of trying them. Then upstairs where they have a separate tap list a few more tasters were ordered. The employees were very nice and helpful in picking out beers to try. One of the best was a pale ale of sorts (3% abv I think) from Spain that was good and hoppy. There was a black IPA and a quad mixed in there for good measure. Overall great selection. Not sure Iíd fly out here just for Zwanze day but they have done that event several years now if youíre looking for your Cantillon ticks.
Didnít try any of the food and come to think of it Iím not sure they even serve food, but itís irrelevant as I was enjoying a glass of Blaugies and having a good time. That, and there is a BBQ place a few blocks up St Charles called Voodoo BBQ that I wanted to check out. Turns out that it was kind of lame, but at least now I know better.
Complaints include prices and that while the service was very friendly they were busy talking to regulars and not paying attention to anyone else, not that we werenít served eventually. If I go back to New Orleans some day this will be one of my first stops.
