Dark, kinda run down place that is a converted house of sorts (donít worry, keep reading), but in the end, it doesnít matter. Itís easy to get to off of the main drag and the beers are worth it. The staff is friendly and knowledgable, and Polly is great and obviously does her damndest to get good beers. The food was delish as well. Basically, you have to fo here if youíre in New Orleans.

Like all the classic beer bars Iíve been in, this is a humble, TV-less, poorly lit joint that is comfortable and lacking any pretentions. Notable for a rather outstanding offering of Belgians on tap and in bottles, it also has many local micros. Bar staff was friendly and attentive, but the beer knowledge wasnít really there, such that I politely asked if they minded if I looked at their bottle collection myself. Overall this place is deserving of their highly ranked status, but be warned: you come here for the beer, as there isnít much else to satisfy non-beery folks.

First impression was quite awful. I wanted to turn around and run. Small bar full of people, smoke everywhere, people pushing, beer list very hard to read (most of the beers crossed over)... I was encouraged to stay and have a drink. I had too. The service was friendly but slow. The selection was quite limited (what comes to local beers) but still I was able to find something to drink. No need to come back. I was disappointed.

All the decor of an old NOLA house, complete with cool porch and funky bathroom upstairs. Service was great, attentive even if they seemed a little flustered. The best beer selection in New Orleans, and probably get some of the rarest stuff in the southeast. Did not try the food, too many other good options in town. Definitely a must stop in town.

I really canít say enough good things about the Avenue. We live in the Baton Rouge area, but itís impossible to avoid making a stop at the Avenue if weíre in the NOLA area. The downstairs selection alone is enough to make it the best beer bar in Louisiana, but combine the balcony bar and special events, and itís tops on the Gulf Coast and competitive in the US. Only 22 places in the US selected to host Zwanze day events, and the Pub was one of them. Granted, that day had some hiccups due to the overwhelmingly large crowd, but the Pub is still tops in my book.

I work for a local beer distributor and I have been closely involved with Polly and the Pub, and I can insure you that NO ONE cares more about the freshness and quality of the product served to her customers than Polly!...as for his service issues, brystmar failed to note that the pub was extremely busy on his visit...so sorry that the staff werenít able to coddle his little ego by paying sole attention to him...Avenue Pub is a treasure of the city of New Orleans and a beer drinkerís paradise!

I went to the effort of signing up for a Rate Beer account for the SOLE PURPOSE of pointing out that the Avenue Pub is the only bar in the city and probably the state which ensures freshness of their IPAs and includes that information (the "kegged on" date") on the beer menu. Passing along outright lies and misinformation in a review is really poor form. Also, the lines are cleaned quite frequently. Opinion is one thing, but saying that the Pubís management doesnít pay attention to details like freshness and cleanliness is a complete untruth and fabrication.
(edit: I did not interact regarding this situation in any forum besides RateBeer, so whoever was spamming the below reviewerís own social media was not me. I canít the only one to note the flat out untruth mentioned originally, however.)

Zwanze Day 2013 was my first experience at Avenue. Selection on tap and in bottles rivals the best beer bars in the country. Unfortunately, for many of the patrons, this is just another bar on St Charles. Your lambic order is taken alongside the woman who wants a vodka tonic and four shots of Jameson. I must say they handled the crowd rather well for the actual Zwanze tapping, though; the groups system was smooth and painless.
Service wasnít particularly good. Downstairs bartenders werenít exactly friendly, conversational, or even efficient. Some of them donít know (or seem to care much) about the amazing selection of beers available here. My credit card was lost for about 20 minutes while I tried to close my tab. And hey, that happens from time to time, but it reinforced my supposition.
[Edit: My original words here were probably a bit harsh & unfair for not having experienced the issue in question myself, so Iím removing them until I have personal experience to confirm/deny what Iíve heard. That said, the above reviewer spammed my personal social media accounts for simply conveying the experiences my friends had at this bar. Two wrongs donít make a right, buddy.]
Anyway, Avenue is a legit beer destination, but donít expect friendly banter with the bartenders because the guy behind you needs his vodka Red Bull ASAP.

A short trolley ride from where we were staying. Multiple levels, tons of bottles and a great selection on draft. After choosing a pint we moved onto the balcony for a relaxing evening on the upper deck. Will definitely go back.

Visited in April. Sorry I missed this place on 3 previous convention stops. Although it has apparently been open many years, perhaps there is only a relatively new owner/management team now devoted to US craft, local and rarer European beers. I believe that you would have to travel as far as Dallas or Atlanta to find a place that could even compete with the beer selection on tap and in bottles here. If they could just find a door closing mechanism for the upstairs patio that didnit slam so hard!

This is the bar to go to in New Orleans for the best selection of craft beer in the area. It is open 24 hours a day, which is pretty crazy. There is a downstairs area and a special upstairs section which offers a few different, special beers (but only opens at 5pm I think). Anyway, this place has local options as well as plenty of international offerings, including Cantillon and Drie Fontinen, and other rarities. It was a great stop, and a must-stop for those visiting NOLA. It is away from the French Quarter, but certainly walkable (~30 mins).
