A large ‘spoons with a nice library area at the back and - exceptionally - no Abbot or Ruddles in sight! Well, at first glance anyway. I did spot them later, tucked away to one side. Apparently the cellarman here is keen to bring in a wider range of beers and he’s been allowed some free rein to do so. It shows - the beer list (18 casks) is very good and all the beers are listed on a large television screen so they can be updated as and when they change. Perhaps one of the best Wetherspoon pubs I’ve been to in terms of the beers on offer.

Visited february 2015 with beery friends. Cosy pub, traditionel spoon pub, placed in the town center. Very clean pub and friendly staff. They do some nice breakfast and have a good range of beers, served in good condition. One of the best JDW I have visited. Was rather busy this saturday morning.

One of the best Wetherspoons I have been to when it comes to choice of cask ales. All together 18 hand-pumps displaying beers from small breweries like Falstaff, Wentworth, Pennine and Small World. A TV screen above the bar shows the beer menu - very informative. Otherwise a rather typical JDW with an open plan outlook, and most important, clean toilet facilities. Central location, just off the pedestrian area in town (visit twice 21.02 and 22.02.2015).

Having walked past this street a number of times I finally stopped in. I wish I had done so sooner - unlike the Thomas Leaper and Standing Order this JDW pub actually provides a selection of quality local ales on top of the usual Carling. Very large and spacious with an outdoor patio it never felt crowded.
The cask choices are mostly local with beers from Wobbly, Derby, Falstaff, and other regional breweries. Most pints run about £2.55 to £3.00 and as with everywhere else you can get halfs to increase your number of ticks.
While I did not eat here I can only assume the food is similar to other JDW pubs. It won’t be anything outstanding but it should be good enough to absorb the alcohol. Be sure to stop in if you are doing a crawl around Derby or get stuck at Westfield Mall.

A traditional look Wetherspoon pub but no less of one for it. It has an excellent real ale selection and a warming atmosphere with plenty of room for all.

Now if only every Weatherspoons was like this. Older, knowledgeable staff offering a great selection of very well kept ales at great prices.

First visit to this JDW which my dad raves about. Certainly not your typical Wetherspoons this had a tremendous selection of Real Ales and all the ones I had were very good indeed. Staff member I chatted was pleasant but did come across ’I know more than you do’ when talking to me about their beers, and he probably did as there were a number of local beers on offer but bit annoying. Thought that the electronic display for beers was interesting and helpful. An enjoyable pub but as others have said it is in the end its a JDW so atmosphere will always lack compared to other establishments.

As people have mentionned, this is very likely to be the best Wetherspoon in the UK, with an astronomic 17 different casks including a very, very varied range of breweries and changing frequently thanks to a generous affluence. The service is of course not the best, understaffed and not very personnal. + the seem to be fading out the third of a pint glasses these days, so that may belong to the past when you visit. Great looking rear area with the book shelves that build up most of the palce’s character. Very large room, lots of seating area. Still, an absolute must if in Derby. ordinary food though.
