Fancy place, smartly decorated. Large chalk beer list greets you as you enter - extensive craft and cask offerings, including some from tiny brewers unknown elsewhere in these parts. Andy the barman was a joy to talk to, his knowledge and experience were much appreciated. Great recommendations for beers too, and generous with the samples. He directed me to other places of beery interest in town as well. Great place.

Bacchus is like an elegant Edwardian hotel lounge, with a large circular door like those revolving ones from old fashioned department stores and hotels. Thereís a wooden floor and black leather banquettes with small round tables and high back chairs sporting a card suit motif. The beer range was rather good - eight casks and about twelve kegs. For some reason there were several Brodies beers on tap, which I thought quite unusual. I can see why Bacchus is the top rated place in town (at least at the time of writing this) but, although I liked it, it was by no means my favourite and there are other bars which rival it for the beer selection. Visited on a Saturday lunchtime in July 2015. Probably the nicest place in Newcastle for a beer, plenty of comfy seating around a central bar, a really good selection of cask and keg beers from all over the UK. Picked up a lot of interesting new beers here. Service is Good, prices are decent. Plenty of space at this time but bet it gets much busier in the evening. A must visit if in Newcastle.

Centrally located, and well worth its rating as the best in Newcastle. Classically elegant, spacious and with plenty of seating (a good thing, given the crowds). Absolutely killer selection, but good thing the staff are so helpful in recommendations and in dispensing samples. Everything super fresh and enjoyed my two visits to Bacchus very much.

We visited here on both Tuesday 30th September and again on Wednesday 1st October 2014. It is not difficult to see why this pub is the top rated place in Newcastle, it is very good, though maybe not quite my favourite. Its a large and spacious place inside a big central horseshoe shaped bar, unsurpisingly draws you in like a magnet. The beers are listed ahead and up high in front of you as you enter. Comfy seats aplenty, a good spot for people watching perhaps. It is a good layout meaning getting to the bar and getting served is not a difficult task, though we did visit at quieter times so not sure what it would be like on a Fri or Sat night. The pub is near many other great bars such as Bierrex, DATbar, Lady Greys. Beer choice very good with a seemingly similar ratio of Cask & Keg. Service was good, a friendly place, really liked it here. The Indian restaurant smack opposite was also very good.

A fairly spacious bar with a modern interior. The beer range is very impressive with several guest beers in both cask and keg form. Aside from beers from the north east, you often see beers from Scotland.

Nice decor and a comfortable place to sit with a quiet pint. Service was pleasant and selection was pretty good. Some kegs, ale and bottles. Food was mediocre at best. Prices were decent. A very nice upscale pub with a good beer list.

A massively over rated pub in Newcastle town centre. My main gripe with it is that itís been incredibly busy every time Iíve visited. thereís very little seating so your left trying to enjoy a pint crammed in to about a square foot of floor space. If cask ale is your thing, there is plenty to choose from, but the craft keg choices have always been pretty uninspiring and extremely expensive. The bottle selection is similar - thereís plenty to choose from, but there are few interesting options and itís very expensive. There are many better options for beer lovers in town. Bierrex, Dat Bar, BrewDog and Tilleys are all much better for my money.
