Visited early on a weekday, not very busy. More or less a homebrew-shop with a tasting room in the back corner. Beers from Ballast Point of course, nice range of regular and more rare beers. Some of them really good. Not your typical tasting room but definately worth a visit.

Awesome brewery, amazing beer, gets very crowded but definitely worth it to go there for their beers.

Finally got to the old Homebrew Mart location. I’m not sure why I was expecting something different but I was a little surprised by the tasters only thing as well as just how small and insignificant the Ballast Point portion of this place is. It’s mostly just a homebrew store. They won’t sell full glasses but rather just little taster glasses and you can only get up to one of each. The tasters are nice since you don’t have to commit a pint and don’t have to feel bad about asking for a taster but this is definitely NOT a bar or tasting room. We only tried the bOOb Check and some dry hopped variation of Dorado. I also took two bottles of the Homework Series #2 home (Belgian DIPA) which turned out to be quite good. I also bought a book on mead making authored by Ken Schram. Looking forward to reading that. As a homebrew shop this place is only alright. They have less equipment and less ingredients than most homebrew shops that I’ve been to. I didn’t however talk to any of the employees about brewing so I really don’t know how helpful they could be to a homebrewer. Prices on the books were considerably higher than at the source (like the IPA book by Mitch Steele of Stone for example).
Can’t say I’ll be a regular here as I have plenty of other homebrew shops closer to home and I can get all the beers at the other two locations.

Not the typical tasting room, by any standard. A little bar tucked into the back of the Homebrew Mart. However, this is some of the best brew in town. Not a date place. Not a hang out. Come get some tasters, get your growler filled, and get out.

Been to the Scripps Ranch location quite a few times...Great nautical/fish paintings, very friendly and helpful service. Lots of unique beer selections available in addition to their regulars. Beer tours are fun and informative. I wish they had a restaurant instead or in addition to the food trucks.

Very surprised that all of their beers are drinkable and taste awesome, regardless of a newbie palette or if you’ve been around the block

This place is on Old Grove Road in an office/professional park. It’s a brewery that has makeshifted it’s unused space into a tasting area. Complete with a long bar, a few tables strewn around, and some window seal and wall mounted surfaces on which to sit your beer. There’s an outdoor seating area, complete with four tops and umbrellas. It was a busy evening. Some of the work crowd leaving the office the last time for the week (it was Friday evening). The service is pretty attentive given the size of the crowd. It’s a walk-up-to-the-bar-and-order system. While they would answer questions about beers, they seemed canned and rushed. I won’t knock them too badly for that. They were busy after all. Quite a few offerings on tap. Some quite interesting to include the Indra Kunindra (curry stout) and a habanero ale. Flights are available making it possible for a person to taste several different beers. There’s a pretty good vibe in this place all in all. I gave this place 3.5 on service just because other places in San Diego were more friendly and accommodating. It’s almost unfair for me to compare them, however, because none of these other places were nearly as busy. The atmosphere could be spruced up a little to help distinguish the tasting area from the brewery. The outdoor seating helps.

Really close to USD. The place is mostly a homebrew store, but there is a nice tasting bar in the back. The usual Ballast Point suspects along with a handful of seasonal and one-off/rotational beers on tap.
