What more could you want? Try the pretzels! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 spracklinc (10) Montana | September 30, 2011 One of my favorite breweries in the state. The taproom is a nice clean, friendly place, and has been nice and quiet the few times I’ve been in. I wish they had a slightly larger selection to choose from (though I think that for everywhere I go!), especially as most of their beers are available all over the state in 6-packs. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 after4ever (213) Brier, Washington | September 18, 2011 In short? Great staff, great setting. Disappointing beer.
In long? This is clearly a brewery on the go, and they have a few offerings that have solid local followings. Their beers are available throughout the NW, and maybe even farther afield for all I know. They’re making money, and they have a shiny new taproom to show for it. It’s really nice, with big windows looking in on the bottling line, a cool upstairs that has a clubhouse feel (and faux old-world-castle decorations).
Outside on the patio, there’s a giant chessboard inlaid into the cement, about 6’ by 6’. 3’ high plastic chess pieces await the warriors of the table, of whom Missoula can evidently boast a fair few, including a local legend said to once have given Bobby Fischer all he could handle and then some in a friendly game.
We didn’t check out the food, but we did try a couple beers. Like a lot of Bayern’s offerings, they seemed a little flawed, though the recipes show a lot of character and imagination. If I could get my hands on a batch that didn’t taste like artichokes, I’d be a lot more excited about their lineup. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 thefixer (10) , | February 28, 2011 My favorite brewery in the state. Very traditional brewing practice. I believe the owner is from Germany. Great beers my favorite is Maibock. | 68 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 marcus (146) Sacramento, California | July 14, 2010 Located off the beaten track, this is a friendly German-style brewery that practices Rheinheitsgebot, resulting in a nice range of well-crafted, very clean beers. The staff and the clientele (mostly locals) are quite friendly making for a pleasant drinking experience. There is a nice bar with about 7 taps, a few tables and an outdoor patio. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 curly (114) Kirkland, Washington | July 11, 2010 Really cool taproom. Came here right after Germany won 3rd in the World Cup expecting a nice boisterous crowd but it was exactly the opposite. Just a few older people sitting at the bar. Nice sampler, one bad thing is that they don’t really have anything on tap that they don’t bottle,at least not when I was there. Still though a very nice establishment. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 MissoulaBeer (10) | May 8, 2010 Fun place to go, enjoy the beer. Due to Montana brewery laws, don’t get to drink much and end up finding yourself walking out with more of a start buzz then anything. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 irish1984 (4) Montana | April 11, 2010 this german style brewery is awesome. all the beers on tap are german. the seasonals are great beers. pilsner, amber, dragonsbreath hefeweizen, dancing trout ale, wilbur weizen are on tap year round but the seasonals are the notable ones- dopplebock, maibock. killarney, faceplant, octoberfest. the service is great and make sure you get a pretzel while your here too.a great place to relax and have a couple beers with your friends. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 jenna_b1984 (9) Montana | April 5, 2010 I love how cozy this is. I really miss the place, I need to get back "home". My friends and I made it a point every spring to visit either Kettle House or Bayern once a week. I love this place, the service is great. The beer is delicious. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 jake65 (94) Williston, North Dakota | November 4, 2009 A nice tasting room at a pretty cool little brewery. Nice viewing window of the bottling line and a modern, yet contemporary tasting area. Three samplers for free or all eight on tap for $10. 6oz pours. All were pretty good, all in traditional styles. Friendly staff. No food, but free wi-fi made for an easy hour of sipping samples and taking care of work emails. Unlike the other 2 ratings here, I happened to visit at a quiet time during which I only saw other people and heard nothing but bottiling line noises. |
