A mellow German beer garden on a tropical island paradise! The tables and chairs are set right on the sand, and the sun sets right before your eyes. Instead of chestnut trees, you have palm trees. The beer selection is modest but refreshing, the only place on the island to serve Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr. The Hacker-Pschorr Anno kellerbier was super fresh and tasty. They also happen to serve what is by far the freshest, best Carlsberg (it actually tasted good!) and at very reasonable prices given that there is no tax on Langkawi. The chef is European, and the Mediterranean-inspired dishes are very good. We didnít stay in the hotel but they have a great reputation for service. Overall the beer garden has a mellow ambiance, suitable for families and older people. Itís a romantic place to watch the sunset. After enjoying the beers here, we often shifted over to Babylon (a few doors down) for the festive atmosphere, good music and late night fun.

Pretty much the only place on Langkawi to get good beer, this German restaurant carries 2 Paulaners and 2 other quality German beers. By no means anything special, but on this island it is. Plus at duty-free prices the German beers are much cheaper here than anywhere else in Malaysia (or Singapore for that matter). Right on the beach, in the soft sand, with resident birds, cats and bats, the setting couldnít be better for drinking a hefeweizen or kellerbier.
