70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Naven (63) Poway, California | July 8, 2006 Been here twice now, and enjoyed myself both times. All of the beers they have on tap are usually available in bottle form at my local liquor store, so there are no real surprises in the beer department, although they will occasionally have one or two surprises, such as seasonals. The food is fair to good, the service adequate, although most of the employed are in the 18-20 range and dont have a lot of beer knowledge. If you’re in Healdsburg, you should definitely go. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 nahthan (5) Oakland, California | May 29, 2006 Decent food. Awesome beers. A decent selection of Bear Republic beers on tap, including Racer 5 on hand pump! Every time I’ve been there there’s always a few groups sitting outside and a few people sitting at the bar, seems to be a popular place. Fairly relaxed, family type atmosphere. My favorite part of the place is that the brewery spills out into the restaurant, with the grain mill over by the fountain drink station connected to the mash tun with a big long pipe run over the entrance to the kitchen on the left hand side of the bar. The smell of fresh hops and mashing grain fills the restaurant when they have a brew going on. They were making Red Rocket when I was there and it smelled awesome in there. The place is worth a stop if you’re in Healdsburg. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 nixter (1) Oakland, California | May 29, 2006 After a few pints at Bear Republic, I left with a body high from hops like I’d never had before. excellent beer. Black Raven Porter, El Oso Lager, and English ESB were all great beers that are otherwise unavailable from the brewery. I plan to return for "Simcoe’s Revenge."
The food is extremely inconsistent. One day the food was great, with excellend salads ad sandwhiches (green chile aioli is a big winner) A couple of days later, however, the bread tasted day old and the food was prepared differently. "Polenta Mountain" has gone downhill. Where it was once excellent fresh polenta, now it seems to be prepared ahead of time in a mold. Where the polenta itself had a nice flavor, the nuances were ruined by the pre-cooked texture. If they need to pre-cook, they should serve it fried instead. The steamed greens are now asian-inspired stir fry with a cooked cellery flavor that clashes with the heartiness and creaminess of polenta. The whole thing was served in a bowl, swimming in excess water. Dissapointng.
The best part of the ambience is watching brewers brew while drinking a pint. The wost part was the teeny-bopper music mix they played on our second day visiting.

Not enough on tap though - wish they had a wider selection, Still very good though. Nice patio out back to enjoy the cool northern California weather in this litle touristy town. Their saving grace was EXACTLY what I came for. Beer, delicious beer. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 rmmello (8) Oakley, California | August 21, 2005 Now this is a brew pub! Serious burgers washed down with beers to match. Racer #5, posibly one of the best Americans IPA’s on the market, and they have it on tap!! Beer nirvana. Don’ t make the mistake I made and start with Racer #5 t, it’ll wash out your pallet and every beers that follows will seem the same. That said, you can’t go wrong with any of their beers. For you folks who don’t like hops, ye best try elsewhere | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 herbjones (29) Orange, California | June 13, 2005 It’s been a long time since I’ve been here but it still sticks out in my memory as awesome. Very good brews and excellent food. Worth it just to try the draft only stuff. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 PuckLSHS (9) | March 30, 2005 Bear Republic is a great place to go with friends after work. Their roasted garlic and appetizers are great. The beer is always good and a step above the normal everyday brews that you would find in the area. The place is decorated for their cycling interest and is very sportsman oriented. I always try to get to Bear Republic when I am up north. |
