Pretty much in the heart of the commercial centre of Liveprool, this pub is close to the Wetherspoon pub The Welkin, but directly opposite on the other side of the pedestrian crossroads thatís full of shoppers busy getting from A to B. Itís a fairly small affair with a thin service and drinking area that stretches back a decent enough way into the building once youíve entered, although if itís a bit too cramped you might want to go back outside to one of the tables in the makeshift patio area out front thatís set up each day that allows you to watch the pedestrian shoppers pass by with their bagged newly bought wares each day. Itís a Victorian styled pub although doesnít quite reach the heights of this era in its authenticity, however its bookshelves and wallpapers still make it a lovely place for a drink. Sadly thereís not much on offer if youíre seeking some different, but if youíre happy to drink well known national cask ales thereís three available on hand pumps that are first up at the bar which occupies the middle ground of the right-hand wall.

74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20
A very busy place on daytime. You can have a pint or two when youíre shopping in the city centre. The real ale selection is quite limited, nothing special (2010).

56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20
A fairly ordinary place, but nice enough, in one of the main pedestrian shopping streets. The beer selection is limited, with just three fairly commonplace casks. Itís long and narrow, with a sort of library area at the front, the bar in the middle and a restaurant area at the back where they serve food until 6.30pm. Most of the customers when we were there seemed to be shoppers so its main function Ė feeding and watering people after a hard day spending money - probably hasnít changed much since it housed Walkerís Grill in the early twentieth century.
