76 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 lusikka (32) Tampere, Finland | May 19, 2013 Oct 2012. Next place after The Trappist. Very similar to Toronado at SF; a garage packed with tons of interesting US craft beers and some rarities as well. It has the same Bohemian curiosities, such as the smells you experience at Toronado. Service is worse, though.
Tap selection was amazing. Unfortunately the bar is rather dim-lit and it’s hard to see the entire bottle selection. If you’re carrying a flashlight it’ll be easier. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 DocJitsu (21) California | March 31, 2013 This place is usually pretty busy. They seem to have a following that outdoes the quality, selection, and environment. I think they might be the only beer bar with this many taps and selections of to-go bottles in the East Bay area. The service is usually pretty good. That snotty, know-it-all, impatient quality often found in the service in Bohemian places like Beer Rev was very noticeably absent. This was a huge plus. Prices are fairly reasonable. Only one bathroom. And it is a unisex. It’s a tight fit inside the bar. The only reason I’d give it an above average on environment is that it has outdoor seating. Of course, in that part of Oakland, there’s not a lot to look at out there. They close early and sometimes, whenever they choose. They have a huge variety of tap beers that get rotated regularly. They offer several different options of to-go bottles, but the bottle beers aren’t anything impressive. Some are obscure, but none that are remarkably sought after. Pliny the Elder seems to sell out pretty quickly. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 richardfolif (4) riverside, California | March 24, 2013 selection is great with a good number of taps and a great bottle selection. Prices are decent. Well worth checking out if you’re in Oakland! | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 vvesside (3) California | March 11, 2013 Beer Revolution is a great little Bar with a huge selection of bottles as well. They always have some great stuff on tap. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Schlenkerla (203) , Austria | March 8, 2013 We visited in 2010. Great place with real authentic beer culture. Nice bar, you also can sit outside. Large beer selection, some rarities. Viva la Beer Revolution! | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 bvc (61) Kenmore, Washington | February 16, 2013 Visited during SF beer week, just before a Boneyard event was to start. Place was packed inside and out. Looks kind of like a bistro or something out front, but divey and kind of dingy inside with what looked to be uncomfortable seating, aside from the bar. Large draft selection, although some weren’t available due to switching over for event and also remnants of selections from past events that had happened for beer week. During normal times, I would have to imagine they have a solid draft list. Price were good/fair. They also had what appeared to be a solid bottle selection that is visible against the wall in the seating area, but I didn’t look at it deep and not sure what the prices were like. Bartenders were fine, getting a beer was pretty easy for how packed it was. We were a one and done, but would recommend this place for sure. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 bigbeersrule (31) | January 24, 2013 Huge bottle selection and nice tap list. Service was horrible though---unless you happen to be a regular. I noticed the bartenders catered to those they new and ignored us tourista. Is that any way for a craft beer bar to be? Won’t be back anytime soon. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 bytemesis (214) Sunnyvale, California | January 21, 2013 Very interesting place, and definitely the go to spot for local beers on tap. They devote a large fraction of their extensive tap list to small brewery northern California beers, some of which I have never seen anywhere else. Also have a row of coolers opposite the bar with "priced to go" beers. Prices are decent, selection is no better or worse than any of a bunch of other places in the area. They do carry some Russian river, but surprisingly few other North Bay beers. I was hoping to score some Marin, no such luck. Bar itself is cramped and grimy, which is part of the vibe, I guess. There is a patio with long picnic style tables as well when weather permits. Don’t go here looking for a whale, but if you want to try a selection of interesting locals that have yet to make the big time, this is your place. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 ineedbeer (5) San Leandro, California | December 4, 2012 I love this place. The employees are great and the selection is one of the best in Oakland.
They have started giving a lot more taps to local breweries which is cool, but it also means some of the beer isn't the best available. Glad to see a beer place support the local scene though.
Lots of Meet the Brewer events which is also a great plus.
A bit small on the inside but there is a nice deck in front which is great on sunny days. Can be loud sometimes. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 IrishBoy (100) Bakersfield, California | November 11, 2012 Excellent selection of taps and a very good bottle selection |
