My 100th Virginia place rating, and this is a special place indeed. The first thing visible when you approach from street parking or the small lot is the expansion tent, always a good sign that demand exceeds supply. Inside is a deli slash bar slash coffee shop slash beer store slash restaurant, so you can do any of the things you normally so in those places simultaneously, or in any combination. The shop selection is extensive, with tons of local stuff. The food is very tasty and varies from bar snacks to deli stuff to full meals, and even breakfast tacos and brunch. Service is quick and cheerful. A must-visit if you’re anywhere in the region.

This is my kind of place. It’s like someone had a beer store and said to themselves. "Hey self, you know what would be really awesome. A bar right in the middle of my beer store!" And that’s pretty much the vibe. They have a nice patio on the outside. On the inside half of the space is for their beer store which is almost all craft beer split between regional, national ,and international brands, and the other half the bar and restaurant area. They had 13 good taps, a cask, and PBR although when I ordered it the bartender looked at my like I smacked her mother which was oddly comforting., They don’t do flights but you can buy beer in 10 ounce glasses. The food is mostly comfort food made with local and often organic ingredients and they have a special Sunday Brunch menu. (I really enjoyed the Allagash Fish Tacos.) If I lived in Charlottesville I would definitely be a regular at this place. Keep in mind they share a parking lot with the restaurant next door so parking can be scarce. Many people end up parking on the nearby street.

There is a lot packed into this little shop/deli/bar in Charlottesville. The deli produced a great sandwich to accompany my beers at the bar, and I could not leave without buying some bottles to go. The beer aisles are cramped and well-stocked. There are some book cases holding singles and a cold can open fridge, a multi-door 6-pack cooler, and a bottle singles cooler. The service was a bit unresponsive, partly because it was shift change.

This place has come a long way since opening. Good beer selection, weekly tastings, some glassware starting to creep in, a nice bar that features a few macros but also several nice beers. They will often get rarer things such as Starr Hill one-offs and the more rare draft offerings that come to the state. Food is tasty with a natural emphasis. This is a beer store, bar and cafe all at once. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. I mean, how many beer stores do you know of that serve breakfast? There are rumors of expansion plans in the future. If they’re not careful, they just might end up becoming one of the state’s premier beer stops. The service is friendly and helpful to stangers but if you’re fortunate enough to get to know them, the service is that much better. I know I’ve walked in and found a rare beer in my hand before I knew what happened. Locals should come here and should do so repeatedly. Visitors should come here too as its one of the premiere stops in the area. The parking sucks. Other than that, this is a top notch place.

Update: as of November 2011, they have a whole new room for beer. The new room is the foreign beer selection and the original room is the American beer selection. It’s still a work in progress, but its already looking nice and should add to the already very nice bottle selection.

Definitely the premier beer destination in this part of the state. Beer Run’s a hybrid beer store/bar/restaurant that attracts a pretty diverse cross section of C’ville residents. This place isn’t just populated by beer geeks, which helps the ambiance. The bottle shop selection’s well-curated, nice. Beer Run seems to get the pick of the bottles distributed to the area, so you can usually find some pretty cool stuff. Unfortunately, everyone knows this, so limited bottles never stick around. Prices in the store are relatively high. As for the bar/restaurant - the tap selection’s generally pretty good. While the bar annoyingly doesn’t offer flights, the staff are happy to provide samples. Service is prompt. The food’s frankly pretty forgettable, I look forward to a menu overhaul. Overall, an essential stop if you’re in the area.

Definitely my favorite place Ive come across in Charlottesville thus far. Very nice selection of bottle beers and a tap line-up that is nothing to thumb your nose at. They must have some connections cause they had a few of the rarer beer that ive seen {brooklyn flemish gold and southern tier reserves} The staff is a young hip crowd but they sure do appreciate their beers. One guy, I believe his name was Josh?, even taught a beer class seminar over at UVA. I love the fact that I can get my wife to go out here in the am so she can drink coffee and I can have a brew. Very awesome concept. Update: Have come back here several times, and I love it more and more. Have had several very rare beers and always have something cool in bottles to go. Love this joint.

Had a delicious late Sunday lunch of catfish tacos. Interesting and varied draft beer list. Smallest pours are 10 oz which limits the tasting. Nice selection of Lou Reed tunes producing a laid back vibe.

Plenty of parking right in front. Big bottle selection. Be sure you check the room in the back. Received quite a bit of help and loaded up. Lots of singles and will break up six packs. Good selection quantity and quality. Hope to be back.

What a great place! From talking to the bartender, the place started as a beer store that they decided to add a restaurant/bar in the middle! They have 15 craft beers on tap and PBR, though to be fair, if you actually order the pabst, they give you the "I’m worried for you sanity" look. This clearly shows that they care about their patrons, which is nice. The beer store has a great craft selection covering styles both foreign and domestic. They naturally do growlers and build your own sixers so you can take some of that cask beer that you had been enjoying home with you.The food is beer inspired comfort food (The egg white omelet was nice).

I have to agree, parking here sucks, but it is worth finding a spot. The selection of beers on tap is decent and they have one of the better selections of bottles you will find in Virginia. In fact they have me wondering why my local beer store doesn’t stock some of this stuff! Food was okay but the staff seemed quite flustered and slow. At 3:00 p.m. If you can’t hack it then, it might be time to hang it up. Still, nice overall experience.
