I’ve stopped in here a few times because it is convenient off 295 in Portland. My most recent trip was last week on the way up to Augusta for work. Great selection of Maine brewed beers. Banded horn, Marshall’s wharf, Funky Bow, Maine Beer, Baxter, etc Nice selection imports as well as domestics with easily 500 labels in house. Some wine and mead as well as a section for cider. It was a late Sunday afternoon and the guy behind the counter was helpful and seemed knowledgeable. I managed to find a dozen or so new beers to try without much trouble. Pricing seemed a bit higher than I’m used to, but could be a Portland thing. I wouldn’t hesitate stopping in next time I’m in the area.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Nice little shop, clean and well organized. The selection is good, not huge but with plenty of good choices and no rotten beer. Some highlights include very fresh Maine Beer Co beers, Cidre Dupont, lots of Prairie and some good Mikkellers. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable about beer. Prices were reasonable without being cheap. Good place to fill up on some beers before heading home.

Setup like a high end wine store. Very clean, wood shelves 3 high, description of each beer on an index card on the shelves. The owner was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We talked a lot about beer styles and distribution - very helpful. To compliment the bottles they also have some glassware from local breweries and books about beer. Craft brewery signs decorate the walls. The selection is kind of small but mainly top tier beers and breweries organized by country. -- Definitely worth stopping here if you are in Portland.

Good store. Not a huge selection but the owner seems to know beer and had good advice. Reasonable prices and singles are available. I bought seven bottles but no discount offered.

Within a year before I moved away from Maine, this place had just opened up. It quickly became a go to place for me as it was right down the street from Great Lost Bear and had much better service than RSVP and also didn’t cause me to take the drive up to Bootlegger’s in Topsham. The selection was extremely good but the quality is way better than Bootlegger’s. When in Portland, go here, its just off of 295, and they do mix-a-six packs with a discount on it or they did when I used to live there at least. Hopefully, they still do that. Oh, last thing, parking is really tight there since they share it with a couple other stores there. I used to park at Hannaford around the corner if that parking lot was too crowded.

Nice spacious layout, easy to get to off the highway. I was lucky enough to have been greeted by the owner who was very respectful of my hurried stop (wife & kids waiting in the car) and who essentially walked me through his entire inventory, guiding me as to which selections were essential an which should be left on the shelf for another visit, if time permitted. Definite 10/10 service! Then I get to th till and find out that I get a fat discount on my purchase!! This place is doing everything right. One suggestion: keep the IPAs chilled, but that’s a minor quibble given the satisfaction I received from this beer store.

Great beer shop with tons of titles and everything is available in single bottles. Lots of European imports and a decent selection of locals as well. Not the hugest place but a place of discerning selection.

The Bier Cellar has been a great addition to the southern Maine beer retail landscape. Greg is very knowlegeable and helpful and the selection is well chosen. RSVP or Tully’s might have slightly broader selections but Bier Cellar comes up with some obscure offerings I’ve never seen elsewhere in Maine. Bier Cellar also gets my nod for the best shopping environment/experience.
Caveats: could use more cooler space, more parking spaces and prices are sometimes slightly lower at Whole Foods or RSVP (sometimes higher at those shops too to be fair).
Overall, however, Bier Cellar gets my vote as the best beer store in Maine

Small store in a strip mall near 295 down the street from the Great Lost Bear. Very interesting set-up with each beer displayed with detailed descriptions on top of shelving that holds multiple bottles of the display version. Small cooler on the left holds select offerings. Cider, mead and some wine is also available. Selection is limited, but very well chosen and described. Very friendly staff enthusiastically supports well-chosen purchases. Prices seem on-par with other Portland outlets. Not a place to score cases for a party, but many rarities make it well worth a visit.
