I have, snob of snobs, always avoided the ícommercialí Bier Markt but finally checked it out the other day (King at Portland.) Very nice space, great selection and very moderate to cheap prices.
I was curious (as a semi-athletic person and motorist) about the alcohol-free Weissbier options, and BM have quite an extensive bottle list for one to go and try new things or old favorites that are unavailable or substantially more costly elsewhere.
On a silly note, the entire menu uses the spelling bier in italicized font, everywhere regardless of what nationality beer it is describing. Kind of a pain in the ass but funny too.
The server did not properly rouse the yeast in the Weihenstephaner i ordered, always important with a bottle of Weissbier.

Upscale pub fare, open concept (can be a little loud, but thatís okay with me), knowledgable staff, hefty beer list all make this a nice stop for any beer-food lover. Een after 4500+ ratings, i found several little gems that were new to me. Nice surpris to try Westy 8! Tap selection at Beer Bistro was better, but the bottle lists are pretty competitive. Nice spot, good vibe.

Bier Markt at 600 King St West is always fun, not loud, delicious food, sophisticated cuisine, full of hot people and cute staff having fun that like to talk and the place doesnít hurt my wallet like every other bar on the street.

The beer selection is phenomenal and you will actually be served in the right glass and proper coasters. That impresses a beer nerd like me.

this place is certainly more approachable than the one on the esplanade. They have a huge beer list, with a few exclusives. Lots of belgian and other foreign taps. Anything on draught is priced more or less alright but the bottles can be expensive. the huge patio is a great bonus in the summer.

Locals on tap with a large sized bottle list. Food was good, nut on the expensive side. Three of us dropped three bills here easily...

Stopped in for lunch on a sunday afternoon. Very nice lookng place, warm and quaint. Service was great, very knowledgable, and friendly. The foodis ok, nothing to shout about, and the beer selection is decent, a few imports you cant find anywhere else in town. A nice place to check out if you are in the area otherwise, no need to seek it out.

Very nice place with polished wood long bar, restaurant and beer house tables, patio outside. It was almost empty when I visited on 10 July 2011 since it was a Sunday. Good service from very polite and friendly staff; a nice selection of beers and a good food menu. Itís amazing that Toronto has so many good places!

EDIT - SEPT. 2011: on my latest visit they had Rogue Mocha Porter and Brutal IPA and Lost Coast Indica IPA on the beer menu. Very impressive for Ontario. Service improved as well. Iíve upped my score as a result. JUNE 2011 - Iíve been told that the Esplanade Bier Markt is a nightmarish douche bag guido club (ŗ la Jersey Shore), so I was relieved to find that the King West location is a fairly respectable beer bar and restaurant. Inside has a lounge-like atmosphere with black-on-red walls and a large dining area in between the entrance and bar. Service was decently quick, although the waitress didnít know if they had the beer that I asked for. But the food and drinks arrived in reasonable time and she suggested an appropriate alternative to my original beer of choice, which was out of stock. The food is tasty and well presented. I enjoyed the clam chowder and smoked chorizo sandwich while my girlfriend had a delicious tomato and goat cheese flatbread. However, be prepared to pay $15-24 for lunch. Beer selection is 30+ taps and 70 bottles of premium imports (mostly European) and local micros. I noticed Urthel Hop It and Beauís LugTread on draught, a few Rogue bombers, and some nice Belgian bottles like Verboden Vrucht and the entire Rochefort lineup. Lots of stuff to choose from with a solid range of styles. Overall, while this place is a little too pricy and yuppyish for me, it does offer a wide selection of brews and they treat the beer with respect (proper glassware, descriptions, pairings). Also, the food is excellent. Since these three things are pretty much all I that look for in a good beer bar, I would say the King West Bier Markt is one of the better destinations in T.O., and especially outside of downtown. Worth a visit.
