Large spacious pub, was not to busy when we visited at night, service was good, place very clean. Food was available and looked reasonably priced. However I do agree the Paffgen Kolsch is rather good.

Walked into this place when we saw Paffgen on a huge sign out front (we were actually going to Sünner right next door). Kind of blunt shitty german service but they got us our beers and fast. They have päffgen downtown which is probably their greatest strength, but I would still recommend heading to päffgen instead.

Typical german Kolsch bar: loads of wooden tables, small wooden seats. One of the better Kolsch available. Dont order anything but beer here, cause the Kobes will be rude.

Beautiful large & spacious building with lots of wood, the inside has a nice feel to it and carries a light feel of history to it. Päffgen is the Kölsch they carry and it is probably the easiest place to try that one in Cologne. Since it is the highest rated Kölsch on RB this one seems like a logical addition to any bar crawl in Cologne. It wasn’t my favourite one & I actually preferred the Pfaffen which is next door. Like most Kölsch bar we visited this one was booming. Service was a touch above average & we got a waiter who had the most badass voice I have ever heard. He had this totally metallic voice which almost sounded like it was coming from a voice box. He was a cool guy. Everything went quickly & he was attentive enough. Overall this was a pretty nice and solid place and definitely worth popping by. Although I wasn’t really paying attention to it, I did get the vague feeling that the clientele here had a touch more locals mixed in.

Visited September 2012 with womencantsail.
It was raining outside so this was an excellent time to step inside and grab a beer. They only serve one kind of Kolsch and it’s Pfaffen. The building is a very old building with lots of wooden furniture and there is a patio out back. We sat at the bar and had a glass of kolsch each. The bartender was insanely busy filling glasses and filling up those circular trays with the little glasses. One after another the entire time we were there. The cask sits on an elevator that lowers once the cask is emptied and removed from the bar and then gets sent back up with a new cask. We saw this happen at least twice while we were there. Beer prices were pretty good. Didn’t look at a food menu.

Nice pub with a garden out back. Great beer, one of the best in town. I have only gone in for one or 2, but wouldn’t mind hanging out here for a few more if more ticks weren’t calling.

Very nice place near the river. Service was not very friendly but prompt. The Paffgen was great and they kept them coming. Prices were on par with other places. Worth checking out.

A beer hall that serves my favourite Kolsch (Paffgen) from wooden barrels and does food in huge portions! Can take ages to get served when busy so if you’re just having a drink sit at the bar!
