Nice spot for an night out, if you like to combine great beer with party mood. During the week is a relaxed place, but in on the weekends it is packed. Big list of beers, that are served with the proper glassware

Visited during the Dutch Beer Challenge with Tim Skelton of Beer in the Netherlands fame. I had not been here since 2002 - not sure the beer menu had changed much. And there is the point. Fabulous atmospheric bar, full of old-style Belgian ales and not much that is of the moment.

We (me, dad and Barry) visited Locus Publicus at the end of the evening on Saturday 14th March 2015. It was very easy to find being located smack opposite the Oostplein tram stop which we had arrived at. It appears to be a one room square shaped pub, with large floor to ceiling windows at the front (I think). The beer list (mostly permanent) was helpfully put on large chalkboards behind the bar, it was a huge list with all of the usual Belgian suspects, however the tap list on the LH side as you enter did change and indeed was changing whilst we were there. It was very popular, no seats available when we arrived so we sat outside, ok it wasnít very warm but we had our coats on and it was dry. I noticed a pub next door called International Locus Publicus (or something similar), in contrast it was extremely quiet, but I wondered if this as the name suggests is a new branch serving International beers. I tried to see if I could see a beer list for the new place but couldnít, there may have been a list behind the bar that could sort of make out, if so it didnít look so big, one member of staff was moving between the two establishments.

Distinctly old school, pretty dark and dingy. Decent enough selection and service.

Nice place to go for a quick beer BUT i was VERY disappointed with the beer knowledge of the staff working there so donít expect to get any sort of recommendations what so ever. I went in last night and was in the mood for a barley wine, i asked the barman what selection they had, he had absolutely no clue what a barley wine was. They also donít know how to serve a beer, i went another time and ordered an Orval, it was served to me in a balloon glass and ALL OF IT was shoved into a glass as you would a heineken i was embarrassed for the bar that is supposed to be a proper beer bar that they served an Orval the way they did, it was an insult to the beer. I will continue going there from time to time but i always make sure to ask that i serve my own beer and i also choose my own glass. The bar has potential but definitely needs to improve their staffs knowledge of what their serving.

Small but pleasant bar near Rotterdam Blaak station. Basically one square room, old fashioned with lots of wood and a real fireplace - a welcome change in Rotterdam. Selection is not that exciting with a lot of Belgianís in bottle, and a few Dutch beers, usually with at least something new to try on tap between my infrequent visits. Good and friendly service. Certainly the best beer bar in a city thatís not blessed with craft beer bars.

Good beer pub in Rotterdam, maybe the best (but I think I like Haagse Bluf better). The ambiance is great, as is their beer list. Most of the beers here are Belgian, but you find some nice Dutch brews too. Not very adventurous, sad enough. The staff is friendly and well informed.

the best place for good beer in Rotterdam. An open hearth and good atmosphere. 12 beers on tap with always some nice interesting ones.

12 taps and lots of bottles. High prices. No real rarities. OK service. OK location (quite easy to get there). Lots of students on Friday night. I believe this is the best pub in Rotterdam but Rotterdam isnít exactly the beer capital of the Netherlands.

itís a pub full of students with a predictable and expensive selection of mostly belgian beers... nice location and interior, but the ambiance is spoiled by all the cocky non-beer loving students who lavish themselves with pils... fireplace is nice though, as is the cat, the bitterballs and the barpersonel...
