A dive bar with very loud music and some interesting German stuff on tap. Small and can get quite crowded. Service was efficient. Not a bad place if the weather is nice and you can stand outside. Prices won’t put you back a lot either.

A dark, divy, and very confusing place. The tap and bottle list is a mixture between random international bad lagers (although some country ticks might be worthwile) and some really nice things: Kulmbacher Eisbock, Schlenkerla, etc. The owner doesn’t know much about beer, and there’s tons of misspellings. Definitely worth to go in and get a Kulmbacher Eisbock for less than 3 Euros though.
Expensive but worth going to once in a while just to have a change of beer selection. Weird place with weird people. Kinda smells like farts and spilled booze. Weihenstephaner Vitus on tap is very good. Small beer garden when weather permits.
Run-down, Köln-style face value dive bar just around the corner of still closed due to renovation Päffgen on Heumarkt. 18 taps advertised outside are mainly Pils, Helles and international lagers now, while the draft list inside includes Schlenkerla, Mönchshof and some Belgian Inbev fare. Counter populated by your average Kölner bluecollar boozers, glancing a critical eye on your other choice than Kölsch and lost tourists. Slightly lost looking and mistrusting barman. Nice Bier-themed comédie humaine piece of questionable sanity in the middle of the Kölsch capital.
1 block from the Rhine or so, feels like a neighborhood bar, I was on a sampling kolsch tour, they had Sion only which is one of the weakest of the 5 I tried that day. Some nice german taps here we never see.
When entering, you think you are getting into some lonely German truckers bar in Lloret de Mar. But as soon as you get used to the atmosphere, its actually quite ok. Very friendly bartender. Selection is mostly different kind of pils and kolsch, but there is rauchbier (Schlenkerla) from tap (how often do you find that outside of Bamberg?) and they had the wonderful Kulmbacher Eisbock from tap. Bottled list is quite boring, but at least they have some different stuff than the average Kolsch bar, which just serves 1 type of Kolsch. Relief from the average Kolsch bar and compared to those, they have a splendid selection.
A complete and total break from the six Kölsch bars we visited prior to coming here. Which constitute the majority of Cologne’s beer scene. This place far from large, full of wood, fine decorations and eating plus lots & lots of Kölsch like all of those establishments were. Instead you get here a regular sized rundown dive bar, in completely apt fashion even of the letters of the giant sign was not working anymore. The outside advertises 18 beers on draft which is an astronomical amount compared to everything else & this place is close to the centre. Only one of the beers they have is a Kölsch (it’s Sion). The beer list is rather baffling. It is a mix of random crappy lagers from all the place, stuff like Budweiser and Chang. Plus some worthless stuff like Leffe. Mixed with more interesting dark lagers made by the more sizable producers in Germany, this included several offerings from Kulmbacher. Sadly a lot of the more interesting offerings listed seemed to be not on at the time of our visit. Many of them most beer nerds will have already tried at some point. Figuring out what we actually got turned out to be a bit puzzling, the majority of that is probably to blame on me trying to speak German :) The selection constitutes half bottles & half draft with the draft offerings served in neat little dimple mugs and bottled offerings sans glassware. This was the time of our bar crawl when we got loud, noise & probably impossible to stand which actually made is fit in perfectly here. The rest of the group was delirious with this place after I made them drink Kölsch all day long which they disliked. So people looking for a break from that may want to pop in here, you will probably find a couple of good beers. Figuring out what they do have or not may be a bit tricky & a lot of what they have is not worth bothering with at all. It is an odd place but might be a haven for anyone looking for something else than Kölsch. Once can do no harm by popping in and grabbing a Kulmbacher Eisbock.
