A true local beer bar. I grabbed a table in the main room across from the taps and had an unhindered view of the tap list above the main entrance. Close the door behind you! a quiet interior for conversation. A no smoking room is there as well. Locals stand before the thigh high bar and have a quick one, converse and move on. The bartender, was busy but made time for my small questions. The bottle list was impressive, but I stayed on track with the draft brews. There was a cask ale presentation from the UK. for the past two days there. Bartender stated that the tap list changes daily. This I believe with the local traffic of one and done. A gem hidden between all the hustle and bustle in Amsterdam.

Been here a couple of times and always forgot to rate it. Nice, sober bar with good interieur and standard furniture. No music plays while drinking, which is kinda nice so that you can have a decent conversation without shouting to eachother. Selection is epic, always new stuff on the board with interesting beers from all over. Knowledgeable staff, good service. Prices are beet steep but still very reasonable.. Great bar for a session!

Visited here about 5-6 years ago, luckily my hotel was pretty much across the street so I popped in often for a beer. It was around Christmas so there was a big selection of Belgian/European Christmas beers on tap as well as lots of regular Belgians - no American or craft brews then just an extensive selection of top knotch European beers. The staff were friendly enough and the atmosphere was great. One of the nicest beer selections I saw during my stay in Amsterdam.

vreemde indeling met de 2 aparte ruimten, vriendelijk personeel, vrij veel Belgische bieren op de kaart, prijzen zijn stevig te noemen. leuk tentje maar niet meer dan dat

Nice place, very nicely decorated, with a nice selection on taps, focused mostly on Belgian styles though. The food was really nice, the beer was nice, the prices were very reasonable! A very solid place!!

Visited on Thursday 25/09/14 around 930pm. Smallish wood panelled bar with an air of Victoriana about it. The place was doing a good trade but we find a table easy enough. 18 beers on tap, largely from Dutch micros with a few random US offerings thrown in - we picked up a new CDA here, whats not to like!! Bottle list was a little pedestrian, 100 ish offerings but largely safe bets, not filled with the newer breweries.
Service was good here, a little faster paced and more attentive than the other bars I visited in Amsterdam. For food we just had meet and pate with some excellent home made chutney. A solid stop and 4th in the Amsterdam rankings is a fair place having visited the top 3 during the same weekend. 7/8 mins walk to Arendsnest or Bierkoning / Beer Temple.

Wonderful bar! The traditional decor makes the place warm and inviting. The staff knows their beer, and is happy to help make recommendations suited to your tastes. Their tap selection are good - mostly Dutch & Belgian craft brews, but they get occasional fun weird beers from The USA and Europe. No food there, but there are plenty of places to grab a bite nearby (I recommend Burger Bar). One of the best beer bars in Amsterdam! My only complaint is they are cash only.

Can’t believe I never rated this place! One of the best beer bars in the city and a "must visit" for any beer geek. It’s an old brown bar that’s like a "walk in"history lesson. Excellent service! The staff are super helpful. There is always a great tap selection and plenty of bottles too. There is no food served here but the Burger Bar is conveniently very close. Solid wi fi too. What more could a beer geek ask for ??

Finally made it to De Wildeman. And for sure I will be back, what more could a beer lover want. Good beer list, knowledgable waiters, friendly service, other beer drinkers around. Only problem is the evening only has that many hours. Love the place.
