Friendly atmosphere, fine service, good selection of beers, including seasonals. An oasis, yet just a few metres away from the bustling corwds.

Visited on Sept. 27, 2006. This is a bar that I’d heard a lot about. The selection was very good, with 17 taps. I enjoyed some very good tripels and even a Finish beer. Service was slow but friendly and informed. Snacks were pricey and limited. I opted for a beercheese, which was exactly a block with a knife and some crackers. But the selection is very good and it was packed with people that loved their beers.

Spent a lot of time at In de Wildeman during my A’dam visit. It’s located in a footpath near the RLD, to the west. Inside it’s all old school barroom decor, old wood and decorations everywhere, quite small overall, with a back area up on a couple of steps. The tap list is short, but they do have a special brew from De Koningshoeven brewed for their 20th anniversary. The bottle list is more than adequate, mixing German, Dutch and Belgian selections. Be sure to ask for their special list, it has more aged bottles and lambic. Service was very good, once they get that you know your way around the beer list. They made some good recommendations, and even pointed me to some other places in town. The crowd seemed to be more locals and more experienced beer travelers and less tourists, which was great.

When in Amsterdam, stay at the Golden Tulip, which is two doors down from In De Wildeman. This beer cafe is an offshoot of Gollem which was, at one time, the place to drink beer in Amsterdam. Now the place to drink is In de Wildeman. There is an awesome list of bottled Belgian and Dutch beers, and there are always a few special choices on tap. It is guaranteed that you will run into some "beer guys" here. Arrive early if you want attention from the barkeep - they usually get really busy in the evening.

A laid back, woody place that was easy to find and probably great for locals. Had a great experience here, stayed for hours. Was rather quiet when I visited in the afternoon, which was eerie, but the atmosphere was still comfortable. Excellent menu, and there’s even a special Bamberg sub-menu. Friendly service and good selection on tap, impressive!

Quite simply, the place to visit while in Amsterdam. We arrived pretty early (around 11:00 am) while waiting for our hotel room to be ready. After a night of flying, a beer was exactly what I needed. Just ask my wife. After meandering around the city for an hour or two we just happened to stumble across this place. We would have found it sooner or later since it was tops on my list of places to indulge. Started off with Spezial on draft and struck up a conversation with the barkeep about rauchbiers and how essential it is to visit Bamberg. After another round and learning the correct pronunciation of Gueuze, we received a bottle of Jubileumbier, which was brewed for Wildeman’s 20th Anniversary. A definite must stop.

Feb. 14th, 06. - This was a brilliant visit! Excellent selection, very nice service with smiling, helpful bartenders. They have a non-smoking department and a lot of interesting beers on draught. My girlfriend rated her first (and maybe last) beers here. Highly recommendable!

McNick and I stopped here, freshly arrived from the station and decided to pop in for a beer around 12:30. The bar was empty but we were greeted by an amazingly friendly barman who sat with us to chat about beer. The selection is great and if you’re nice they’ll even bring out a secret card with a few extra choices (mostly Germans). The atmosphere is rustic and dusty but convivial, with many items of old breweriana hanging off the walls. The tap list is very good and most of the selection focuses on Dutch and Belgian breweries, with a few unusual but tasty choices. Prices are also great, especially coming from Paris where you could expect to pay double or triple what they were asking here. We made this our main bar after touring the other options, as we found it to be by far the best in Amsterdam. As with most places, their English ranged from good to perfect. The rest of the staff was fairly busy when we came back around peak hours so we did get to chat with all of them, but all seemed amicable.

I spent three nights in Amsterdam the year before last and this place was a beer lovers nirvana. The staff were lovely, food was plain, but even a big plate of cheese and crackers is just the ticket when you need to accompany such good beer. Great, will be back!!

Went here in May of 2003 and like De Bierkoning, I thought I had rated this. Very nice ambiance here. I liked the design of the place and how dark it was inside. Nice "brown" bar. Very good selection of beers, but I aimed for the high alcohol stuff while there. Service was generally good as I recall. The place was a little empty while I was there and I’d rather have it that way. Enjoyable time there and recommended to all.
