In de Wildeman might be just the best beerbar I know. a very well balanced selection of 17 beer on draught, and usually one extra beer on cask a very nice collection of lambic beers, always some bamberg beers available. Two rooms, no music and a very good service. What does one need more?

Been here a couple of times now and enjoyed it both times. Nice and cosy with lots of dark wood and a large blackboard showing their current tap list - which changes regularly. The selection is great with good beers from around the world on tap and from a large bottle list. The service was great and the staff know their beers and are happy to give recommendations. Definitely worth a visit for a beer or two if you are in Amsterdam.

convenient location near center of brussels. pleasant, laid back vibe inside. 25+ years old by now, so place is broken in. larger, better selection at netherlands biercafe. but this place is a solid second option. like. also, enjoyed the burger bar place across the street.

This is the best place to go for beer in the day in Amsterdam. The service can sometimes be a little slow, but they are very knowledgeable and friendly. Also, the dutch cheese and mustard is great.

Located next to a crowded shopping street, this place is located in some sort of a bigger alley. Great and old looking from the outside and cosy and old looking from the inside. We were quickly talking with the owner for an unlimited time about beers, brewers and everyhting else connected to beer. He showed us the cask place in the back as well as the beer cellar. Really nice owner dedicated to his work! A nice selection of beers from tap, cask and bottle. A must visit when in Amsterdam! Great place!

In his book “Around Amsterdam in 80 beers” Tim Skelton says that “The ‘Wild Man’ is one of the world’s greatest beer bars and you should not leave Amsterdam without visiting it.” I agree! It’s located very centrally, close to the tourist district and a main shopping street, and the first couple of times we planned to go there, on weekend evenings, it was bursting at the seams so we had to leave it until quieter times during the day and later in the week. It was well worth the wait, though. The main bar has a few tables and a raised platform area at the end, where we found Ken and his colleagues Nick and Colin enjoying a beer or two one evening. There’s also a second room to the side, where we usually found a seat amongst the mismatched assortment of old tables and chairs. The whole place, although old fashioned, feels airy and light, probably because of the bank of windows at the front and the soft green colour washing of the wood around the bar. The array of beers is very impressive, with offerings chalked up on a board, although once I’d found the smoked porter I didn’t really need to try anything else. Incidentally, the Wildeman has a free smart ‘phone app listing the beers it currently has on tap so I can now see what I’m missing on a regular basis. (Last visited 1 July 2013).

2009-01-27. Excellent choice of beers and taps. Contemporary atmosphere, but cozy enough. I had Crombe Oud Kriekenbier. Wonderful.

It’s a toss up whether this or Arendsnest is my favourite Amsterdam hostelry. Arendsnest certainly has the edge for Dutch beers but this place has a superb atmosphere, despite being just yards away from a busy pedestrianised shopping street. In fact, the choice of Dutch beers on tap was much better than I anticipated and not as Belgian dominated as I was expecting. And, apart from the obligatory dull pilsner, they are pretty much all high quality brews. There are interesting bottles of the week and bottles of the month (one of each). The main beer list is extensive but the Dutch selection there lags behind Arendsnest for interest. A big advantage is that it is open from midday, when many of the other top beer places in Amsterdam don’t open until 4pm. In fact, the quieter period in the afternoon when the guvnor is invariably in evidence and has time to chat, is arguably the nicest time to visit, if sometimes a little quiet. Even at busier times though, despite the proximity of hordes of shoppers and tourists, it is not often jam-packed and usually there’s a seat to be found. Service is excellent and knowledgable. Prices are fair. Food is the usual cheese / sausage snacks. Always a joy to visit, I did so several times during the course of a 10 day stay.
