Very close to the station - go here _before_ you head to the hostel to drop off your rucksacks. Right hand side is non-smoking, and quieter (all Dutch smoke, it appears). Great draught list - 20 I counted - and even better bottle list with real breadth and depth, and many classics. Both weekly and monthly specials of both bottled and tap beers. Was only in ídam 3 days, but had 4 trips here. Sterling friendly service. Friendly and beer-loving clientele too.

Friendly place, great selection on draught. Well-informed service, immediately offered a taster. Letís hope the tourist hordes stick to the coffee shops and leave this place for the rest of us to enjoy.

Really smoky place, even on the non-smoking side there was a lot of smoke. Otherwise it was a nice and cozy place, where one could probably have stayed for a longer time. Big selection of beers, with also some nicer stuff. The staff seemed busy with quite much other things than serving customers at times.

Stopped in on a friday night and the normal room was pretty crowded, but there were a couple of open tables in the side non-smoking room. Nice worn in wooden interior feels relaxed and homey, but its bigger than say Gollem, so you donít feel like you are sitting on top of everyone else. Very good selection of Belgian and Dutch bottles and lots of taps with a wide mix of imports. The service was great, and one of the bartenders chatted with us for awhile about beers and coffee shops, and pointed us toward some more obscure places that I hadnít heard of. Thereís also a great Chinese fast food place across the alley called Wok to Wok that became our standby for the trip.

Very nice place with good beer selection. Decorated in wood with six big wooden barrells on upper plateau. A bit too dark and quiet place in small alley that I accidentaly ran into after half an hour search for Arendsnest (works from 16.00, and I came there about 13.00). A bit too expencive.

A classy looking pub, dead in Amsterdamís center, on the tourist paths which means that the pub may be assaulted by tourists, but they tended to stay on the terrace during my visit and there were sitting places inside on an early saturday evening. Nice wooden furnitures including breweriana, nothing exagerated. About 150 bottles focusing mainly on belgians, but nothing too rare will be found there. The draught list will be the most interesting feature with 18 taps including obscure franconian lagers and rarer belgians. Obviously knowledgeable, helpful staff. They like what theyíre doing and enjoy promoting the good stuff. A nice bar, but I must say I was not charmed near as much by it as Arendsnest. Perhaps if I were a local and had tried hundreds of Dutch beers, Iíd think otherwise as this one has a strong import draught list.

This is my favorite beer bar in the world. They do not have the largest selection you will see, but it is a high quality and often surprisingly unique one. For example, it is one of the few places to try hard-to-find Dutch brews on draught. They also have an excellent selection of rotating taps. Itís a thoughtful and varied beer list, and all are served at proper temperature. They are true beer lovers here. The staff is unbelievable and is what gives Wildeman its special character. Not only do they know their beer but they like talking about it and will remember you if you are a repeat customer. Genuinely friendly, even at the busiest of times. I like coming right after they open, when I am the only beer nerd in the place. Then I can chat with the staff. Elaine is awesome, itís nice finding a fellow female who digs beer. As for food, usually they only do cold plates. but thatís not necessarily a bad thing because you can get Trappist cheese, which is nice. However, once or twice a year the owner cooks a special dinner herself. All the courses are made with beer. I had the opportunity to attend one year and it was absolutely fabulous. Really I canít say enough about this place. When Iím in Amsterdam I pretty much live in de Wildeman.

Great little pub that offers welcome respite from the usual Amsterdam shenanigans. Draught list seems to offer plenty of finds and surprises. Had a couple there on a Saturday with plans to really milk the place the next day. Wish Iíd realized they were closed on Sundays. Iíll definitely make this place more of a priority next time around. Bottle list is solid on Belgians and quite strong on Dutch and German beers as well.
