Kinda small, like a small hole in the wall, more or less. Great selection of beers though and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 Glouglouburp (345) Montreal, Quebec | February 2, 2013 Located on one of the many small streets in the heart of Amsterdam, right next to the red light district. The bar is medium size, the inside is divided in two sections and can probably sit around 80 people. They have a few chairs and tables on the front to sit 10 people outside. Old beaten pub just like I love them, they haven’t put work in this place for at least 20 years. Lots of wood, this place is warm, beaten up and welcoming. Atmosphere is truly beer drinker pub, this not a family place. Beer selection is 15 to 20 taps and a long but uninteresting list of bottles. You really go there for the tap selection. Beer selection is about 50% Dutch beers and 50% other stuff (German, Belgium, American, etc.). If you want a beer menu dedicated to Dutch beers you go to ‘t Arendsnest, 10 minutes walking distance from Wildeman. I was at Wildeman many times in 2010 and went back again in 2011. Here are a few of a beers I had at this bar: Schlenkerla Fastenbier, De 7de Hemel Hopla, Schneider Weisse Nelson Sauvin, some De Molen and many more. I drank a lot of cool stuff at Wildeman. All beers have always been in perfect condition, they really take good care of their tap lines. A real party place, even made some friends there in 011. Depending on who you talk to, the best beer bar in Amsterdam is either ‘t Arendsnest or De Wildeman. Totally different atmosphere and both have a superb tap list. But I for one, much much prefer the crazy Wilderman. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 beerman89 (2) , England | January 12, 2013 This is a good bar generally with a good beer selection but there are a few downsides. It is always crowded and you will most likely have to stand up. There is no music, so it can be a bit boring if you are on your own or looking for a proper bar atmosphere. I also tried one of their draught beers which has a very high rating on here but it tasted absolutely foul, like pond water! I could only manage 2 sips and had to abandon it, I’m very sure it wasn’t how it was supposed to taste. A waste of 4 euros! They usually do have a pretty good friendly service to be fair though.
| 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 jfb (65) , Germany | January 5, 2013 Finding this place drunk and without a map proved quite a challenge. Two-roomed bar with a decidedly old-school vibe, packed on a Friday night, so we shared a table with a bunch of lively Dutchmen. The list of beers on draught wasn’t overly exciting and prices are a tad steep. Staff is friendly and quick on their feet. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 verte (1) , | December 18, 2012 Brightly lit pub, lots of wood everywhere. Decent selection, but rather expensive and not much ambience. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 feargal (4) , | November 11, 2012 This is the goto place in Amsterdam for beer purists. The staff know their stuff and they even have their own IPA (Flying Dog Farmhouse). Be careful what you order though, the last time I was there we had a huge bill after drinking a few excellent recommendations. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 climberbob (13) Virginia | November 9, 2012 Good selection, knowledgeable staff, and nice rambling interior. They don’t always have everything advertized, but still a broad enough selection to keep almost anyone happy. I prefer Arendsnest for their selection and focus on Dutch beer, but if you are looking for some more diversity this place is good. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 womencantsail (391) Garbage Grove, California | October 4, 2012 Great little place where you can sit outside and enjoy a beer or enjoy the old school ambiance inside. Pretty good tap list with a lot of bottles to choose from as well. Can’t go wrong here. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 madsberg (50) Søborg, Denmark | October 1, 2012 Fantastic small place, with nice ambience and a qualified staff. Selection is excellent and you can easily spend a couple of hours drinking good beer here. |
