My wife nad I stopped in here on a cold winter evening right as they were about to close. We were only in for a beer so they let us stay. We sat at a table overlooking downtown Hood River and the twinkling lights of the city. It was the last stop on our eveningís pub crawl so I canít say I remember all the details, but I do recall our waitress being very friendly and quick with our drink. The stout I had was tasty and my wife enjoyed her cider. the building is built sort of in a hillside and has multiple levels for diners. I enjoyed my time here and would have liked to have tried more of their beers. Oh well, next time.

Cool building...very interesting place with multiple rooms and levels and definitely a fun place to hang out. The problem is that the beers are not really that good...average at best. In a craftbeer town like Hood River that should be the kiss of death...but I guess there are still enough macro drinkers or people who arenít that picky about their beer to keep the place going. I see those that rated the food rated it above average...so Iím guessing their thing is the not too discerning (craftbeer-wise) customer. If you happen to be in town for craftbeer...skip this place...we hit it because we needed one more place to earn our "Breweries in the Gorge" glass (you have to visit and get stamped 8 of the 12 breweries in the area).

A nice environment with some Buddhist flags, Great scenery to look out over the Gorge and watch the wind surfers. There were SEVEN (7) beers on tap including 3 that were not listed on Ratebeer. There is a hike up to multiple levels, a bit of an adventure into this good olí house/lodge feel. The owner is very nice and walked around giving wine samples out.

Very nice building, multiple floors laid on the side of the mountain, apparently an all-timber structure. Beers are very average, available as sampler, but we had an excellent house made German style sausage (much better than all sausages we ate in Leavensworth, our next stop); the tiny cheese toast for 10$ is too expensive. WiFi should be available but didnít work when we visited.
There is an open view over Hood River (well, not the most beautiful city).
Entering you will be welcome by a smell of grease and old house.
If in Hood River, I would go back here for the food.

Tried on two attempts to visit during posted hours, yet they were not open. On second attempt an employee coming in some 20 minutes after posted open hours laughed and said they "needed to change that".Slackers. Will try again next time when in town and re rate, until then, fail.

Took my wife and son (2 yrs) in for Sunday lunch. They were ready for a little person with a high chair and some crackers right off the bat. We had the salmon burger, clam chowder and the childís fish and chips. The food was good but the salmon burger was pricey at $12 for lunch. They offered about nine of their own beers with a descent variety within them. My wife sampled at least four of their beers (4 oz each) and all were good. I had 12 oz of Slyís Demise and MacStallion Scotch Ale. Both were good too. The view from their dining area of the Columbia River and downtown Hood River is tough to beat. Hood River offers more than a few good breweries and all are worth a stop.

OK place. Nice view. Our server was friendly but seemed to have too many tables. Food was just OK, somewhat underwhelming. I got the beer sampler. A few were below average and bland; the others were just average. Most of them lacked depth, and I lost interest after just one or two sips. Guess I expected more. We didnít end up staying for additional pints.

The setup of this brewpub is certainly different than most. Big Horse has great sitting areas inside or out with great views of Hood River and the Columbia. It was a fun place to hang out with pool tables and good tunes. The beer selection was decent with 6 or 7 of their own then one guest tap. The beers were a little pricey outside of happy hour but I find that is the standard for the area. Definitely a nice place to hit up after playing in the wind and water of the Columbia or taking a drive up Mt. Hood.
