74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20
I have heard this place called a "dive" many times and this surprises me. I donít see it that way. The food is wonderful - well prepared and delicious. Absolutely some of the better íbar foodí around. Itís a place I will go to for lunch or dinner even if I am not drinking (although that happens rarely). Now for the slightly more important part.... the beer. The beer selection is decent. They have locals on tap and the staff seems to know beer enough to not let you order absolute shit. The beer selection isnít overwhelmingly ample but they have at least a few solids there. It is more about the food and lack of crowds than it is about the beer unfortunately. Their fried pickles are superb (but their fried green tomatos arenít worth ordering). The staff is nice enough and friendly, especially to those who return often (they appreciate a regular). Overall, one of my favorite bar food places but not my first choice for trying lots of beer.

Been here a couple times after some beer tastings. Itís definitely a dive, no questioning that, but itís a nice dive. Order your food and beer at the walk-up bar. The food usually comes pretty quickly, and the burgers have always been very tasty. Appetizers are nice, too. Billyís generally has some nice beers on tap, including a lot of locals. Nothing really crazy, but itís right down the road from the Draughthouse if youíre looking for something a little more uncommon. I see this as more of a food place than a beer place - it happens to be a food place with some nice beers, though. A fun joint, anyways.

This place to me is a dive. A true american dive. Do not come here expecting a waitress or live music, or any of that sorts . This is a bar where you can come after work order a burger (which is tasty) and a beer (one of many 25 taps or so) abd ebjoy it There are a couple of pool tables and a juke box. Worth it.

A small cozy well lighted place. About 25 beers on tap. A good selection of locals, + Chimay, and 6 or so taps of macros and craft posers (Iím talking about you, Blue Moon). When I got there on a Sunday evening, there was a line of 10 or so people at the bar. You order your beer and food at the bar and pick up when they call your name.
I had a cheeseburger and a Live Oak Pilz. The cheeseburger was very good. The fries were also very tasty. My friend ordered some fried mushrooms which he raved about. Iíll have to get some next time.
For pub food this was excellent.
My beer had quite a bit of foam when the bartender poured it which is great to see for a pilsner. Most places drop the pressure down so they can pour the beer quick but this sacrifices the head. Beer was fresh and tasty. Have a Live oak if you ever come to Austin. One of the great breweries in America , IMO.
Billy the owner was there, I guess he hangs out here often. I like places where the owner is around.
They also have a nice pat

Iíve had plenty good experiences here but a single instance recently left a particularly bad taste in my mouth. Terrible customer service in response to a very valid complaint, including being berated by the kitchen staff.

Came down with the old lady in tow to meet with lb4lb and pintsize on a lazy Saturday afternoon- Ambiance- itís clean, bit of a retro look, but itís nice. Service- help yourself! Selection- pretty good selection of beers on tap (roughly 30) and in bottles. Food- pretty good and very nice size portions, didnít leave hungry thatís for sure. Overall- I would be a regular here but itís out of my range a little. But Iíll still stop by every now and then.

I live in the neighborhood and only yesterday tried this place out, after about a year and a half. They have 28 beers on draught, (counted) and many more bottled. Very reasonable prices, lots of local beers such as Real Ale, Live Oak, Shiners, Lawnmower, etc... Itís not big enough to get too crazy, food is decent, nice widescreen tv inside, darts, deck seating, video games, pool table in a compact setting. A great overall neighborhood joint, if youíre nearby. Iíll be back for sure.

Nice neighborhood pub. Recognize the furniture? Uh, huh, from Waterloo. Billy apparently doesnít throw anything away. Including the burger recipe!! Same great burgers from Waterloo. 20 or so taps with some emphasis on local brew (usually 5 or more locals). Nice televisions to watch a game or whatever. If you are a GB Packer fan, go check out a game, I think Billy is a fan. :)

Billy Forrester (proprietor) deserves ample credit in the fight to bring brewpubs to Texas. This is a simple neighborhood bar with decent food and a simple array of decent beers - Live Oak (2 taps), Real Ale (2-3 taps) SNPA, and Schneider and other good bottles. So while not overwhemingly screaming beer geek - itís a perfect hideaway for a good pint and chat w/ friends.
