Wow, coming from Ontario where all we have is the government-run LCBO, I am blown away by the selection in this place. Rows and rows of great American craft brews, and a good selection of imports. I need to travel south of the border more often.

Stopped by during a conference in Downtown Chicago. I actually had exceptional service as opposed to everyone here, I think I was talking to the buyer, he had all the best recommendations for local craft and let me into his secret backstock with solid 3F bombers. Awesome spot!

This is a Binny’s, and as such, they have a massive selection at very fair prices. If you want any help finding anything, good luck flagging anyone down who will be able to help you, unless the actual buyer is there (I forget his name at the moment). They have a good amount of beer also in the cooler, so that is convenient, and if you happen by at the right time, you can find limited releases as well.

Great keg selection with email reservations. Great! Friendly and fair with keg returns.

Service was crappy, noone gave asked if I needed help after about 25 mins of browsing and couldnt find the ’beer guy’ when I asked. Loved the selection though, not much UK and austrlian stuff but makes up for that with the US stuff. Not a great deal of hard to get beers but plenty of good ones still

The beer guy here does a good of communicating through email when new stuff is in. However, the store and selection are small and gone right away. Overall, selection isn’t that great, never see anything that I want besides when special releases come in.

Not nearly as broad a selection as the Marcey St. Location a few miles north. However, this is located in the loop, has parking, is right next to the L, and still has a very solid selection and often has the same deals as the other larger locations.

Conveniently located about two blocks from our hotel during our last stop on our brewery tour. Not quite sure why this place is ranked so low. Huge liquor and wine selection but the beer selection is impressive as well. Tons of great breweries including Port, Ska, Stone, Mikkeller, New Belgium, Lost Abbey, Hoppin’ Frog, Goose Island and Dogfish Head to name a few. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Richie I think his name was even took our names down to call us to let us know when the Vanilla Bourbon County arrived and then told us about a limited Three Floyd’s/Dogfish Head release when we came in to pick them up.

A few blocks down from RockBottom Brewpub, this was the perfect location for my beer hunting while in Chicago. From a Canadian perspective, the selection is awesome. Nice representation of local and mid-west US micros. Nice selection of belgians too. Special section for cider too, which is nice. I thought prices were good. Staff was polite and friendly, but didn’t have the first clue about beer.

My go-to place while living in Chicago. As an Ontarian, I was blown away by the beer selection at this store. For the U.S., it’s probably ’typical,’ but I personally felt like Homer Simpson in the Land of Chocolate. Canadian offerings included Unibroue 15, 16, 17, La Seigneuriale, Quatre-Centième, Quelque Chose, and La Terrible. U.S. brands were most of the Rogue, Goose Island, and Three Floyds lineups, as well as Sierra Nevada Anniversary, Peak Organic Amber, DFH Palo Santo Marron, Souther Tier UberSun, New Belgium Skinny Dip, and Anchor Small Beer. Imports ran the gambit from Sam Smith Winter Welcome to Rochefort 10/8/6 to Hitachino Red Rice, Weizen, White Ale and Lacto Sweet Stout. It took me the better part of three months to work my way through these offerings, and I can truly say that Chicago reinvigorated my passion for craft beer. Staff here are reasonably friendly. On certain occasions I required their assistance and they were pretty helpful. My only beef is that they would always check for ID, even though I was a twice-weekly customer. I know it’s part of their job, but employees at my local LCBO often spare me the embarrassment if they recognize me. Sometimes homeless vagrants were lingering outside of the store, but they were harmless. Overall, Binny’s North is a great beer store in the heart of Chicago.
