48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 10/20 GT2 (346) Riverslime, California | April 15, 2013 Stopped by here while rockclimbing around Morgantown. Inside is all wooden tavern feel, live music, younger adult and college kid crowd. Menu is odd ball burritos and quesadillas like Greek and Thai versions of the two. Not too different from Boloko. Except the burrito was then drizzled with sauce on the outside meaning you could no longer eat it like a burrito so what do you do? Use fork and knife and make a gigantic mess? Beer tap list was minimal. Probably 4 taps total plus a lineup of many Sam Adams beers in bottles. Lots of beer paraphernalia all over the restaurant, but the tap list was SNPA, one WV local called 5-Way IPA, and then some sort of local porter that was still on the chalkboard but had kicked. Selection was thus very weak, food decent, ambiance was cool. Service was slow even though the place was not crowded. The live music was a nice touch, but once the band stopped playing there was no ambiant music to replace it, which made the vibe seem awkward. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 weihenweizen (93) Charleston Area, West Virginia | July 18, 2012 Outside is plain, inside atmosphere is Bohemian. Downtown Morgantown, parking building is right beside the place. Four on tap at the time, a couple NET brews. Good selection of Rogue bottles, other than that bottle selection is pretty slim. Pretty good service, however they were not busy due to WVU being out for the summer. Food was local ingredients and good. Not a bad place, just not much of a selection. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 chriso (306) London, England | March 5, 2011 Visited in March 2010. Pretty much the only worthwhile option in downtown Morgantown other than the brewpub as far as I could tell. Some reasonable options in the beer department with a couple of local beers on tap, including a house Oatmeal Stout that is a rebadge of a Mountain State Beer. Slightly artsy / bohemian feel. Lived in, comfortable surroundings. Lots of people dining but we’d already eaten at the brewpub so didn’t try the food. It was a handy place to pop into for a couple of beers after we’d done the brewpub. | 34 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 2/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 10/20 ChemDoc (12) West Virginia | December 29, 2010 The food is a little foo-foo for my taste, but I can usually put something together that suits my carnivore palate. They usually are pouring at least one decent beer. Not my first choice in Morgantown, but I’m happy to go there once in a while.
They get bonus points for having decent live music from time to time. | 70 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Acetobacter (46) Pennsylvania | November 11, 2009 Rather nondescript from the outside, belying a really cool place within the interior. Seating is in the front of the place, save for a small stage area, upon which live bands frequently play. The selection is small, but generally something decent can be found, at a reasonable price. The food is said to be sourced from local providers to the greatest extent possible, and it seems true, as there is a nice fresh note to all of the edibles. The atmosphere is very warm, very relaxed, and pretty progressive; a great place to take kids for a low-priced dinner. Overall, nicely done. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 WVHouseofBeer (30) Kissimmee, Florida | October 22, 2009| Updated November 12, 2009 Selection is the best you’ll find in Morgantown. The food is a tad on the pricey side but it was definitely good. They usually have a couple local beers on tap, (Miners Daughter Oatmeal Stout, Roedys Red). A very chill place to go and have a beer and hang out. One of the better places in Morgantown to sit down and have a beer. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 14/20 thechandler (10) Charleston, West Virginia | October 18, 2008| Updated November 12, 2009 This is a pretty nice place. More of a bar attached to a restaurant, but a bar nonetheless. Selection is about the best you can get at a bar in Morgantown. Lots of Rogues, probably 12-15. Dead Guy on Tap. As well as the Black Bear Oatmeal Stout, their own brew (which is actually Mountain State’s Miner’s Daughter Oatmeal Stout). Service is pretty good. Nice people at least. Generally always a live artist playing. Usually something folky. I didnt actually have the food, but it looked good, and I heard good things so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Kind of on the pricey side overall, but its worth it if you want good beer and a pleasant, non-threatening atmosphere. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 cheap (136) Cheap Lager in Western, Pennsylvania | September 8, 2007| Updated July 8, 2011 This place is pretty big and was for the most part empty during a WVU game, I was glad, nice oasis after the fist two stops. It is not dark inside as described earlier. I was surprised to find Mountain State Black Bear on tap, what a relief. Turns out the black bear may be a special oatmeal stout that is made for this place. They also had a fine selection of other micro brews on tap, about 5. No free parking in downtown Morgantown, it’s located right off of Don Knott’s Blvd. They also have Saranac real rootbeer for the non RBeerians and the kids, pretty good! A benefit that is accepted. Barmaids are nice eye candy. Friendly place, I hesitated to go in here because of the parking, but I’m glad I made the effort. I didn’t have time for food today. An overall enjoyable experience. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (198) Vero Beach , Florida | November 20, 2006| Updated August 3, 2012 It’s dank, kinda dark, sometimes too noisy and the live music usually sucks. However, they have the best selection of craft beer in the state as far as I know. They always have a couple WV brewed craft beers on tap from one of the few WV brewpub/craft breweries other than the MBC and Mountain State Brewing here in town. The service is good, the hippies are abundant and the build-your-own burritos are great. Also, it’s about one block from Morgantown Brewing Co. Gotta go if you’re a beer guy/gal and in Morgantown, WV. | 40 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 7/20 alemanstout (1) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | September 19, 2005| Updated August 3, 2012 Cozy place in downtown Morgantown. Has decent beer selection for WV. Food (mostly burritos and quesadillas) is great but not always consistent. Awesome owners and friendly staff. Great place to start a night out. Definitely worth checking out if you’re down in "Moetown." |
