Stopped by during RBWG 2012. A nice place, a bit hipster-ish, and quite small. When we stopped in the place was SLAMMED.
Our service was as quick as it could be. They have weird system where you have to stand in line to get your beers or food.
The selection seemed good, but I didnít get anything except their brewed beers, all of which were solid or better.
Average to slightly high beer prices.
Overall, stop in if you can. They had some really tasty beers on tap if you donít mind waiting in line and then hanging out in a packed place.

Pleasant enough place; airy, lots of exposed wood. A little loud, of course; must we have high ceilings with no sound-absorption? Partially self-serve, but everyone was really friendly; the food selection was a little short, but the beers on tap had a very nice selection. A little expensive on the food side, but the fries were KILLER and the burger was good. A nice place for lunch.

Interesting place. Strip mall meets housing complex. I wish I had eaten here, the food looked very tasty. Handful of house beers and lots of guest beers, so plenty of variety. Constant long line for food, but I sat at the bar, so I was happy. Good service. Interesting place.

Visited October 2011.
First night in Austin. Interesting concept, a co-op brewery. Certain aspects of it sound nice in theory, like communism, but in reality it doesnít work. The beers were OK, not nearly as bad as I was expecting when I heard about the 500 owners thing, but not great. They also have a number of beers to pick from so there some variety in the tap list. In fact from a picture that I took there were at least three flights of 5. Also, I did appreciate is the idea of paying themselves a reasonable salary and not forcing customers to tip. Prices were pretty good too, and the service was OK.

We shot several episodes of Locapour at Black Star Co-op, including the Welcome to Locapour video:
The venue is fantastic. Brewmaster Jeff Young and team are pillars of the Austin Craft Beer scene. You owe it to yourself to pay them a visit while in Austin.

Busy on Thursday evening, but we found a table in good time. Long line but rather quick service. Petty good selection, 5 of their own beers and like 20 others on tap, no bottles. Growler fills, bottles for sale, etc. Food was very very good (shrimp & grits), Value was decent, it cushioned the blow that tax was included and no gratuities. Different than I expected, but I really like this place!

Fresh. They run out of stuff here, beer and food, because what they serve is fresh. Taps rotate nicely, nice spectrum of style choice, seasonal offerings, tapping parties. Try it if you have not. Little crowded Friday and Saturday night.

This place is a cooperatively-owned and worker self-managed brewpub. That already makes it awesome, but they are also always tapping new craft brews AND they offer brewing and flavor analysis classes.

Visited on a Friday night. Tucked away in a newer building complex in North Austin. Right by a train stop. Modern interior. All ordering done at the register, and the line forms from the front door straight to it. No tipping, as employees are paid a living wage. 5 house beers on when we visited and a bunch of other Texas stuff. Didnít eat but the food smelled and looked great. Beers were solid but unspectacular overall. Really liked 2 of the 5. Good crowd and atmosphere. I like the concept and what theyíre doing here. Keep up the good work.
