Very good quality selection of drafts. Far too crowded at times as a result.

Small pub with a great tapline south-west of Edinburgh Castle. I lived in a nearby hotel and nearly didnít get any further. Had such a nice time here. Lovely people, fine selection of Scots craftbeers, kegs and so on. Highly recommend a visit to this sublime little pub.

Great little pub en route to the Hanging Bat and Cloisters. Lots of locals watching the horse races and football on a Saturday afternoon. Not much room, but they made the most of it, with lots of small tables to sit at, generating an intimate pub atmosphere. Good selection of cask ales, competent service.

Small and atmospheric corner pub below the castle on its south-west side. This older styled real ale venue is intimate and popular enough to be twice its size, although thatís part of the charm about this city centre establishment close to the theatresí. Thereís no shortage of ale choice here and cask eats up the lion share of the small bar that faces you as you walk in.

I enjoyed visiting this pub. Not the most spacious of places, but thereís a good (yet modest) selection of Scottish cask beers on offer, plus some keg too. The service was friendly and the pub has a late licence!

Excellent, traditional, two-roomed corner pub behind the castle and just around the corner from the Hanging Bat. Eight very well kept and fast rotating cask ales. I came here on a Friday pub crawl and had seven ales that I hadnít tasted before. Two days later, on Sunday, almost the whole range of cask ales were new. Itís a freehouse, very cozy, charming run-down, and inviting. Friendly service. I felt immediate comfortable here. In good company with fellow ratebeerians mr_h, Stuartyboy and JohnRMurdoch. Many people but not crammed during our stay (visited 09.08.2013 and by myself on Sunday 11th August).

Proper boozer below Edinburgh Castle, interesting floor tiles, which makes you study the floor rather than what is round you. Old boys pub with the chat and atmosphere that goes with that. The beer was well kept, if a little standard in range. Small, intimate, you have to grab a seat when you see one. Liked it.

Visited this pub on the Great Graig Pubcrawl Tour 23/4-2012.
An older smaller city corner pub. A bit rundown, can be a bit crowded when busy. 8 taps with UK beers, the beers are normally in good condition. I donīt think they do food at this pub, but you can have toast etc for lunch.

Great old boozer with a generally good selection of cask ales and whisky (as well as rum Iím now told). The dark beers seem to be kept better here, not sure if itís something to do with cellar temperature but the Cairngorm Trade Winds tasted sweaty.
