This place is the real deal. Bar atmosphere, with two levels, tables and standard bar seating. Pretty good food. Pretty helpful and friendly staff. And then the taplist. Beers from all over NY, the USA and the world, including a ton I had not tried before. Prices are reasonable, and they do four-beer flights, but they choose the beers, not you, which is a bit of a bummer. Didnt even get a chance to look at the bottle list, but I spied some interesting selections in the coolers. All in all a great place that is worth the hype.

Wow! Great place in a desolate city. Went here for my birthday and was amazed at the tap list of 32 - nearly half Belgian - that apparently rotates all the time. Good bottle list with a couple of cheap finds even. The ambiance was super busy - this after the cab driver tried to tell me not to go there because it was small. Big props for the Fela Kuti music. Food was also amazing. Had some pork to die for, and a great burger between me and the lady. Top notch place that makes it worth going to Buffalo for.

I can see why this rates so high. Cool space with padio seating and small bar. I bet it fills up at peak times. Beer selection was excellent and trended toward belgian styles but you could find most beer cultures represented. I enjoyed some lovely beer from stillwater. Food was excellent. My wife got a mussel bowl, i got the ultimate grilled cheese. Both were excellent. Marinated olives too. Excellent. Service was attentive except for the 10 minutes waiting for the hostess to seat us in a virtually empty resturant. Overall enjoyable and certainly seems like the best thing in town.

Great place in the heart of the Elmwood Village. Selection is hands down the best in the area the focus being mainly on European beers, but plenty of Americans are represented as well. There will be beers here that you will find no where else in Western NY. The place is a little small and can get overly crowded, which is the only bad thing I can really say about it. Good mussels and frites too.

So I look at the score I am giving this place and its honestly much better but the selection that was on tap when I was there did hold it back *although was still good. That being said its a great set-up, went for lunch and it was nice and quiet - had attentive service, food was very good and reasonable, although drinks were somewhat on the expensive side (happy hour and Saturday flights seems to be the way to go to save a few bucks though). The cellar list of bottles is definitely worth looking through and I imagine this is the kind of place that depending on when you go they can have amazing selection - just wasnít the case when I visited so hoping when I am next in town they up the anty.

Hard to find much bad to say about this place. Lovely place for a pint or 6. Great decor. I didnít look much at the bottle list, but it seemed extensive. Tap list was great. Went late on a Friday evening, and the crowd was very young.

Its great to have Blue Monk as my local. Its a smallish place, which gets crowded later in the evening. Selection is hands down the best in Western New York and every time I travel somewhere like NY or San Francisco Iím amazed that a bar in Buffalo has a better selection than the best places in these major cities. Drafts rotate constantly with a heavy emphasis on Belgian imports & high end American micros. Bottle list is solid but emphasis tends to be on draft offerings. For what theyíre pouring prices very reasonable - I assume that bar prices are twice what I would pay at a bottle shop and blue monkís prices usually fall around or below that level.

Nice place. Stopped in for the "Sour Saturday" and was pleased. They also had a ton of Mikkeller single hop IPAís on tap from a few days ago. 32 taps total, all craft beer. Food was good and not too expensive. Plenty of Cantillon bottles available too. Would go back more often, but itís 1.5 hours from my house.
