Stopped by after dinner for a nightcap. Place was fairly crowded and service was good. Looked like a good selection of San Diego brews. I liked that they opened early for Sunday football and that our hotel was across the street.

’been going to this place for 18 years. They always seem like they never saw me before and are not especially nice. Beer leads need to be cleaned? Flat and unclean flavor. Good selection. Noisy. Need proper glassware for German beers. Everything served in pint glasses ----?

Cool British Pub-style place with a younger crowd. Didn’t have food. Not an exceptional amount of beers available but fit the style well with their offerings of English-style ales. Would definitely go back when in downtown Sacramento.

Pasties were good. Old Speckled Hen was on cask.Got there before the crowd, so service was really good. Actually the pasties were very good. Brass plaque at the end of the booth with the word "shite" among others. Darkly mellow. Suggestive of merry olde. Nice place.

This is the best place in Sac to get a beer. Excellent selection of beers on tap and bottle. By far the best ambiance in Sac. The place is empty most of the time. I have never tried the food. They have Old Speckled Hen on a beer engine here and its absolutelly marvelous. Noone here will kiss your ass with fake customer service, just a great place to go and get a beer and not be bothered. The closest thing to an english pub in Sac.

I visited here on a lazy Saturday afternoon around 3pm. There were a handful of obvious "regulars" present. There is a small porch out front for smokers and the interior is very dark with lots of wooded notes. Plenty of cozy booths are also present. There is a very small bar area that sits maybe 6 people on the right with a super cool old wooden cash register that still works. There are dart boards in the rear. Very cozy place that seems close to being an authentic British pub. The menu is very limited, but they have British offerings. The bangers were good, but the fries tasted of freezer. They had about 20 taps and 20 bottles. Nothing overly exciting or exotic. Mostly British stuff with Chimay and a couple German offerings. The only US brewer they feature is Firestone Walker. The waitress I had was less than ideal. She was inattentive and more worried about going on smoking breaks than me or my desires to order food. She also failed to give me a glass with the bottle of 1845 that I ordered. It has a decent ambiance, but the beer and service are subpar.

This is a wonderful neighborhood bar, especially if you love British ales. Don’t expect a great selection of American micros or Belgian ales, but you will certainly find something you like among the 18 taps (2 handpull) and about 40 bottles. If you come on a weekend night or during a special event, be prepared to fight for space. Otherwise, you can chat with the barkeep from a barstool, seek privacy in a booth, or enjoy the outdoor patio (very small). The food is quite good and relatively inexpensive - mostly British fare such as fish & chips (really good), pasties, ploughman’s lunch, etc. There is usually a sporting event on TV.
