Visited on 19th June 2016. Deceptively large pub just over the main road from the station. Has a number of small rooms all located around a bar, big screen showing sport and lots of beer related memorabilia on the walls. Thereís a huge beer garden with both picnic tables and comfier seats, some under cover to the rear. The beer selection is very good with a large array of handpulls, a wall of keg taps at the back and 6 or so beer fridges stocked with goodies from the UK and the rest of the world so plenty for a ticker to go at. Beer quality on cask and keg was excellent. Staff friendly and offered samples of beers. Prices maybe a little high but definitely cheaper than London. Stock bottles brewed in the cellar and other local breweries that donít make it too far. Itís worth a stop off if passing through.

Update 24/05/16. Have dropped service by one mark. Staff need better training. I intervened when a customer at the bar asked what kind of beer Beavertown Bloody Ell was and was told itís a lager ! The girl seemed to think there were two types of beer on offer ... Keg = lager; Cask = Ale !!! Visited on Saturday 12/09/15 around 6 pm. Bootlegger is located bang opposite High Wycombe railway station and a short 3 minute stroll to the town centre. An attractive stone clad building, the Bootlegger is separated inside into 3 or 4 distinct areas along with some seating at the bar and a good sized beer garden. Trade was brisk on my visit, although a lot of this was likely due to the Man U Vs Liverpool game being shown on a number of big screens around the venue. At the business end 20 Keg taps and about 8 cask lines were on offer in addition to a couple of hundred bottles from the UK, Europe and beyond. Keg selection was a little pedestrian with quite a few macro picks but of interest three Rogue and one Alameda offerings plus a Siren Calypso. The cask range was fairly local and the Three I tried were in good condition including offerings from Marlow, Red Squirrel and Tring. I managed to pick up 3 winner Kernel beers in bottle during my visit which was a bonus. 3 beer tasting trays of third pints are on offer which is most welcome indeed. You can also by a branded glass Growler for £6 and fill with any beer (from what I could determine without having asked) for £4. They looked like 1 litre growlers so pretty good vfm for a take away. Service was very good, plenty of staff, never had to wait more than a minute or so and one of them checked the hop details on the Calypso for me. There didnít seem to be any food on offer other than pork scratchings from large jars. We had the maple flavour ... They were really good ! Overall a great little venue. I think Iíd always pick up ticks here bearing in mind the casks tend to be local and were largely recent releases/seasonals as opposed to tried and tested stalwarts and I didnít even scratch the surface on the bottle front. My only criticism was the filler in the Keg line up but this is only a minor gripe when holding up against the best bars in London. Having discovered the Bootlegger it will now become a must visit when Iím in Wycombe.

This was already the best beer venue in Wycombe by a huge margin, and itís recently been expanded. There are now 8 casks (4 are usually local brewery Rebellion) and about 20 craft kegs (order from the big blackboard behind the bar) along with about 200 bottles in fridges ranged around the place (thereís a beer menu at the bar to choose your bottles from). Their website does list some bottled beers, but this is only the basics that they stock all the time so donít judge them on that. Itís modern in design, with the now-to-be-expected pine tables, comfy sofas, that sort of thing. Bar staff tend to have at least a reasonable knowledge of beer and are happy to make recommendations. You can have all cask and keg beers in pints, halves or thirds, or get a flight of three thirds. Really this is a London-grade beer venue now, and rather unexpected in Wycombe. Only a couple of criticisms - there are some big sports screens (fortunately muted apart from during big matches, but still rather jarring for me) and itís pricey for the area. However, itís always busy, which implies that generally theyíve got it right. Iíll certainly be back!
