Friday 24th Oct 2014: Packed, just enough room to stand at the far end of this thin but fairly long pub. Came here years ago and it was the same: standing room only. Love the thin tables and the beer selection. Friendly place with both tourists and locals vying for a position or seating. Both my cask beers were in good order and the staff both keen and helpful. Mini tourist trap but as mentioned earlier locals frequent the bar as well. Edinburgh is not a cheap place to drink in, so this wasnít cheap either to a Shropshire beer hunter.

Nice selection both on tap and in bottle, despite their main focus being whisky and not beer. Nice atmosphere but terribly small!

Came here twice during vacation since itís so near tourist section and so awesome. Cool ambiance of old word. Nice cask selection with Scottish and English brews. But as a scotch lover this is paradise. Staff was super knowledgeable and found some real whisky gems for me and I mixed it with occasional casks pretty great and prices not bad.

2014-07-08. Great traditional pub atmosphere. 8 casks and some draft taps today and a pretty solid bottle list of imports as well. server is friendly. fairly quiet on a Tuesday afternoon other than a table of chatty tourists. bartender was friendly and gave accurate descriptions. Great spot, had lunch at Oink across the street.

Terrific little pub in wonderful Edinburgh. A fair collection of craft and cask, and some eyewatering whiskeys. I had a lovely time here, but stayed perhaps a bit too long, he he (there are a good few other places nearby you donít want to miss as well).

Typical English pub in the Grass market area.Really good selection of whiskeys and a descent line up of mostly local ales on tap.The bottle list was ok too.I liked the ambiance a lot as it gives you the feeling of an old pub combined with good beer. Its near to restaurants and other places to eat and drink as well as shopping.

Me and Loz visited here on Saturday 15th March 2014. Weíve been here a few times before with Craig & Stella but never got around to rating the place. This time we were on our own and visiting fairly early in the day (approx noon) the bar is on a lovely bendy cobbled street and comes across as one of the more historic venues in Edinburgh, certainly that Iíve been to. Its a smallish one room place with the bar on the right hand side and centrally located. There is a lot of wood and old maps on display, the bar has a good selection of beers on tap, in fact it is the dispense method that is very interesting with a brass type lever which is pulled to one side to dispense the beer, quite a rare and unusual type of dispense I gather. Beer choice was good, I had a superb Alechemy Oynx Loz had a Fyne Ales IPA (Hurricane?) There were a few people in here but it was generally a little quiet. It is a nice ambience, relaxed but with a sort of historic classy feel about it. Definately one of my favourite Edinburgh bars.

Superb place thatís full of atmosphere. I wish this place was my local. Itís a bit on the small side, but that only adds to the atmosphere. There is an excellent selection of beers (in keg and cask) from all over the UK.
