Visited March 07. This was my favorite pub on my whole vacation this year. Quaint little pub that had a great selection of cask ales and some 140 whiskeys. The bartenders were very helpful and knowledgeable.

I absolutely love this place! The staff are welcoming, helpful and very knowledgable. Their passion for imbibing and food is very evident. The Tall Font system is still in use and they have a good diverse selection of real ale, mostly focused on the York area. The whiskey selection is well priced, with way too many great options. Basically, you can spend an entire day here and be a very happy albeit drunk person. The staff made my visit to Edinburgh, giving me great places to eat all over the city. I would suggest thie Bow Bar to all.

I LOVE the Bow Bar. I’ve only been once, and it was late on a Sunday night, about an hour from closing time. I was expecting the staff to be grumpy and unpleasant, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were very happy to discuss beers with me, as were the clientele, and it made for a very pleasant evening. The bar is OLD SKOOL, but amazing. So. Much. Whisky. And the old fashioned taps are a nice touch. I could live here. Well worth a visit.

My favourite boozer in Edinburgh. In Scotland for that matter. A lovely quiet haven in the middle of the city with a great (for Edinburgh) selection of cask ales. No jukebox or TV. Lovely

One of my favourite bars in the UK and certainly my favourite in Edinburgh. All Scottish air fonts for dispense, which are a fairly rare thing these days. Around 8-10 draught beers available, all in great condition. Wooden flooring and bench style seating. Fantastic old brewery mirrors on the walls and a superb malt whisky menu to tempt you, should you feel the need to stray from the beer range. Outstanding.

This is one of Edinburghs finest bars, Can get very busy, and has the narrowest tables i have ever seen. The Beer selection is Really good and the Quality Excelent. May not be as trendy as any of the grassmarket pubs but you’ll be hard pushed to find a decent beer in the grassmarket. Id say a must if your in the area. This is my TOP equal choice of Edinburgh bars (along with Cloisters)

Stylish and characterful real ale and whisky pub near the National Library. Excellent selection and fast rotation of seven cask ales, served by classic Scottish air pressure dispense. The real ales are often from smaller and independent breweries. At one of my visits I found Brewdog Punk IPA on cask. Has also got a big selection of Scottish malts. They certainly know how to handle ale and whisky at this one roomed pub. Definitely one of the very best for beer drinking in Edinburgh. Last visited 12.11.2008 with Finn and a few other Norwegians.

This was the first place I went to last time I was in the UK, and if I’d known it’d be easily the best pub I was to come across in Edinburgh/Glasgow/London I would’ve stayed a lot longer! Beautiful single room decorated with beer paraphernalia, but in a very ordered way as opposed to the typical Belgian random junk arrangement. Completely silent, yet it seems totally natural. Folks reading the paper or chatting quietly. Bar guy was very friendly, knowledgable and willing to offer suggestions with the beers. Had a killer pint of Punk IPA and a few other things. Far more interesting and less windy than the castle.
