I absolutely love this place! The staff are welcoming, helpful and very knowledgable. Their passion for imbibing and food is very evident. The Tall Font system is still in use and they have a good diverse selection of real ale, mostly focused on the York area. The whiskey selection is well priced, with way too many great options. Basically, you can spend an entire day here and be a very happy albeit drunk person. The staff made my visit to Edinburgh, giving me great places to eat all over the city. I would suggest thie Bow Bar to all.

Good traditional bar, the more so for its position just off the Royal Mile on the way to Grassmarket, directly opposite one of the best whisky shops in the world. An essential port of call if doing Embra.

A battered but charming room. A decent selection of mostly local beer on tap. Some Begian beers sold on bottles, but the bottle selection wasn’t that impressive. I sat there for a few hours a saturday afternoon on my own and had a great time with a few pints and good service. If food is served there I didn’t notice.

Impossible not to admire this lovely pub. Interesting cask range, awesome whisky selection and brilliant staff. Popular with locals and visitors alike. Crackin’.

Fantastic original pub in the center of Edinburgh. Well worth visiting for whisky and beer. The whisky selection is second to none and the beers on tap are interesting and varied. The staff is friendly and knowledable. The room is a bit battered but that also adds to the charm. Not much seating but usually room for everyone. No food.

Fantastic bar to go to for real ale in Edinboro. Old school, great selection, tourists and regulars. Go when you’re there.

Visited this pub on the Great Graig Pubcrawl Tour 23/4-2012. A small traditionel pub in the area of the castle. Very coisy, and friendly place with great staff, they know their stuff of the beers. Can at times be a bit crowded, and have few seatings with small tables. They serve great pies for lunch. Besides they have a bottle selection as well and a huge whiskey selection.

Traditional bar close to the tourist masses, it was packed both times we visited. Seemed to be a reasonable choice but it was hard to get to the bar. The beers were in decent nick, the ambiance is friendly. Really is worth a visit.

They have a strange way of pouring their beers. Pressuried cask. Beer tastes great. Staff is super friendly and knows what they are talking about. The atmosphere is ok. Its not your atypical pub but the bottle selection is top notch. Would reccomend it.

8 casks. Lots of bottles. Cozy small pub. Reasonable prices. Nice location. Friendly service. I guess that’s all and that’s also what it takes.
