A battered but charming room. A decent selection of mostly local beer on tap. Some Begian beers sold on bottles, but the bottle selection wasn’t that impressive. I sat there for a few hours a saturday afternoon on my own and had a great time with a few pints and good service. If food is served there I didn’t notice.

An excellent little pub, rather authentic with efficient service and a solid selection of 8 casks. More English beers than most amongst the pack, you’ll have to look elsewhere for rarer scottish specimen, but with its central location, it’s a must in Edinburgh.

In this basic, long and narrow pub room you will find 8 cask ales (mostly British in my 2 visits) with lots of seasonals and some rarities. The place is pretty quiet as it can’t hold that many people, but it greatly lacks atmosphere, which is why I wouldn’t see myself spending a full evening here. If you are a beer geek though, you will get enough real ales to keep you busy for a few hours, and as a visitor to Edinburgh, you will pass through the nearby Grassmarket, so why not pass by and see what’s being served? I’ve only been twice so far, and was rewarded with great selections (Dark Star, Ossett, Harviestoun, etc.) of well-tendered ales both times.

Nice bar located in the centre of Edinburgh. A lot of locals, which was a good thing. Warming stove. Poor selection, some internationals. But they flyer with the message "Winter Beer Festival", but like non of the beers were available. Expensive but friendly, fluent, helpful barkeeper.

With cgarvieuk. I liked this place all wooden palaling and good old bottles on the walls to look at. Beers in decent nick and 3 ratings for me also from english brewerys which can be rare in edinburgh.

Very light bar in the center of Edinburgh. Quite crowded, but we managed to get us a seat. Nice selection of cask ales, immense selection of whiskeys, some bottled beers as well. Prices are fairly high for Edinburgh standard (I think), but still reasonable (about 3,80 per pint). Had a nice time here, but I thought the lights were too bright, killed the atmosphere imo.

Bar near the famous Grassmarket. Old wooden interior, but quite boring. Couple of taps availalbe with nice selection of scottish ales. No food available, except for the croque monsieurs which are prepared on the counter. The lady behind the bar had a moustache, and maybe that shouldn’t matter, but it does not help either. So, don’t visit this smelly bar, cos if you wander around you will find at least 20 better bars.
