Another of Edinburgh’s miracle of miniaturisation bars. A good ever changing selection of real ales. Not many places to sit and can become rammed with suits, but never an unpleasant place to drink, even when full. When quiet it’s a splendid hideaway for a pint in Scotland’s capital.

Small but comfortable bar with an extensive and well documented array of whisky and good selection of bottle and draught beers. Definitely a drinking destination as there is nothing else besides the company of your friends and the staff to occupy you here, as it should be! Staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations on whisky and beer. Pricing seemed very fair in the heart of the tourist area.

Quaint authentic bar hidden away in Edinburgh’s old town. This justifies the search with its interesting selection of cask ales generally in tip top condition poured through traditional gravity fonts.

One of two places we returned to. Great, small common room with a rather large bar. A s**t-load of whiskys. 6 casks that change fairly regularly. Very friendly service. I always respect when a barman recommends a competitor, because we wer looking for an excact beer. Good brewdogs in bottle. Nice, cozy place.

Nice selection both on tap and in bottle, despite their main focus being whisky and not beer. Nice atmosphere but terribly small!

Friday 24th Oct 2014: Packed, just enough room to stand at the far end of this thin but fairly long pub. Came here years ago and it was the same: standing room only. Love the thin tables and the beer selection. Friendly place with both tourists and locals vying for a position or seating. Both my cask beers were in good order and the staff both keen and helpful. Mini tourist trap but as mentioned earlier locals frequent the bar as well. Edinburgh is not a cheap place to drink in, so this wasn’t cheap either to a Shropshire beer hunter.

Lovely old pub in the middle of Edinburgh’s home town. The speciality is cask ale and some Scottish and international bottles. They seem to have summer and winter beer festivals and seem to get beers that other bars don’t. Would highly recommend it, though steak pie was a bit small.

Traditional bar close to the tourist masses, it was packed both times we visited. Seemed to be a reasonable choice but it was hard to get to the bar. The beers were in decent nick, the ambiance is friendly. Really is worth a visit.

One of the best bars in Edinburgh, usually a good selection of Scottish micros on served via traditional Scottish air pressure.
