64 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 15/20 MarcoE (7) , Netherlands | January 8, 2013 OK, take this from a regular! :)
Decent beer list, although it focuses heavily on standard Belgian classics. No ’new Belgians’ (Struise, Rulles, Senne, Ranke), only one decent gueuze (Boon) and about 30% of their list seems to be permanently out of stock. Prices went up recently; you know pay an impressive € 7,20 for a Rochefort 10...
Apart from all that complaining: the best beer bar in the whole southwest of the Netherlands, great service (team Mik & Kim!) great atmosphere, great interior and good food! | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 caesar (224) Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | May 8, 2011 Located in the old city centre of Middelburg. Worn out interior with a lovely old bar. Gives you the idea you really are in a living room. Possibility to play some games like chess. Decent selection of beers. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 bierkoning (229) La Tropica, Netherlands | November 21, 2010 Had a tasting session in the pub, with Emelisse beers. Bar is smoky and I hate that. Impeccable service, good beers and a well assorted small shop at the back. Recommended. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (103) Helsinki, Finland | August 12, 2009 A cozy pub/restaurant/beer shop, only 200m from the Markt at Middelburg. The few taps are gone through quickly, but there is a well-planned - although smallish - bottle selection (some of which were not available, though). The bottle shop carries mostly local beers, with a few bigger Belgian breweries. Has friendly service and quite good food. Had to flee from the smoke at the terrace, but inside there was plenty of fresh air to breathe, thanks to the new local smoking laws. Probably the nicest beer place you can be in Middelburg, but don’t bother to come here just for this. Middelburg and Zeeland in general are worth a visit, though. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (138) Delft, Netherlands | March 27, 2006 In the centre of the medieval city Middelburg. Next to the bar there’s also a little shop with local products and a nice selection of beers (about 100 bottles). Very friendly staff who serve you beers from the shop as well if you ask (not cold of course). They have tasting sessions if you make an appointment. Very nice ambiance if you like the style. In Holland we call it ’oud bruin cafe’ which means it’s cosy, dark, choatic and - that’s a downpoint - smokey. The selection the bar was nice but not exceptionally large. Mainly beers from the province Zeeland (Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland) and Belgium. The food was great but just a bit more expensive than most other restaurants in Middelburg. They also have a few rooms if you’d like to stay in Middelburg. |
