Strange I haven’t rated this yet .
very tavern-style place, with many drafts from Het anker . Unfortunatly , nothing else than het anker , nor anything rare or vintage . Basicly, anything from them you can get everywhere else . Accept sometimes that they have 1 special draft .
Service is nice and friendly though, the food appeared to be good as well, yet I did not eat here . Prices are average .
I’d like this to be more worth the effort, since you dont get to see anything special here, and you can drink these beers all over Mechelen ( and Belgium in general )

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. I don’t think this place is on a lot of beer geeks’ itinerary in Belgium because there are a lot of good places to see and generally not a lot of time to visit them on. I will however, strongly recommend this place. Firstly, I don’t think the place entry does it justice - this is the Carolus brewery, with a restaurant and a hotel attached, as well as a bottle shop. We did the brewery tour which was great; one of the better ones I’ve been on actually. We got to see how small an operation Het Anker really is (6200 liters per brew) vintage brewing equipment, including their copper kettles and their very own koelschip (yes, before 1999 Carolus beers were chilled in a koelschip on the roof of the brewery). We also saw the aging whiskey which was quite nice. Then we had a decent lunch in the cafe (a bit pricy but tasty) with all their regular beers available in bottles or on tap with the easter beer special on tap and the Cuvée van de Keizer available in bottles. The shop was also fully stocked with everything including their whisky which is quite decent by the way. Prices weren’t wholesale low, but decent. It is conveniently situated on the ring in Mechelen (between Brussel and Antwerpen) and parking is available nearby. Check it out!

Located at the ring of Mechelen.
Went there with the whisky weekend. Nice athmosphere, but the waitress was really unfriendly.
In the weekend, it’s best to make a reservation if you want dinner. The menu was pretty good and of course served with their beers and whisky.
Went there last summer as well (when I was on a biking trip). The service was better back then.

We (me and Loz) visited here on Saturday 8th February 2014 which turned out to be a particularly wet and windy day. Unfortunately we were unable to go on the brewery tour as we were unaware that we could have done this simply by pre-booking, never mind it will give us a good reason to re-visit :-) The tap toom/brasserie was modern, smart and we liked the layout with high wooden chairs & tables. The staff were friendly and helpful and beer choice fine though limited to the Het Anker range clearly. Prices were excellent and beer very good. It is situated by the ring road and yet still very close to the centre, the hotel, beer shop and brewery are all on the same site. In fact the hotel prices for a room looked pretty good value, now just need to find a campsite local to Mechelen to find an alternative to Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges

The tap room from brewery Het Anker offers most of the Gouden Carolus beers on draft, in addition to Lucifer, Maneblusser and Anker Lente Bok. The brasserie has an ok atmosphere though it feels a bit open and impersonal. The kitchen serves hearty dishes, often with Gouden Carolus beers in the sauce. Overall the best beer place in Mechelen. Pity they only serve the flagships only per bottle. Food is quite ok but slightly overpriced vs. quality

Service and food were ok. A few vegetarian options. A little noisy but ok to visit with some friends after a visit of the brewery and taste the beers. **

Good place to try different Carolus beers. Had the X-Mas beer, which was excellent and very different (licorice!).Beer shop offers very good value. So does the hotel, which is basic, but tisdy and clean.
