Stopped by on a recent Europe vacation along with SamGamgee and my wife. Sam had arranged to meet Daniel Thiriez for a tour and tasting. What a gracious host for taking the time to show us around, drink some beer, and talk about brewing. Truly one of the high points of our trip. Very interesting beers, left with a mixed six pack that we sampled the rest of our trip. The bar area is charming area with much historic memorabilia on the walls, and there was a local community group getting ready to use the facility for an event.
I’ve been there several days ago during a trip in french and belgian Flanders. Nice bar inside this small brewery. Friendly and familial atmosphere. Wooden tables. Huge collection of beer mats on the ceiling. Nice place to share a pint.
A visit to Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbecq, France should be on every beer traveler’s checklist. The quality of the beer and the character of the estaminet is something to behold. Brewer Daniel Thiriez is uncompromising, his products speak to those who love clean, low-gravity, hoppy golden ales. At one point we were the only patrons present, and Daniel kindly showed us the grounds and talked to us at length about his brewery. There were perhaps 10 different bottles available, a mix of new, interesting and classic. Three taps were pouring La Blonde dEsquelbecq, L’Ambrée, and la Petite Princesse. The two contract / collab beers made for Akim T, named Preamble and Confidence, were jaw-dropping. Without exaggeration, here is one of the finest places in the world to drink good beer.
Visited the 26th September 2014. This small brewery in north of France near to the Belgium border is really nice. You can feel the family atmosphere on this place. You can visit the brewery for 3,5€ but you need to ask before it with an email. The brewery is really small but you will have an amazing explication of the process and how they are working by a worker of the brewery. Then you can drink Thiriez beers at the bar. A small place with an old-fashioned decoration. The selection is small but really fresh. You can discuss with the staff and they will be happy to share it with you. You can also buy beers and the price are really smart.
Small brewery just a short drive from the highway and the Belgian border. Taproom with 2 taps at our visit, and 10 or so bottles. Good quality of beers. Decor is wooden tables, beer signs, and a collection of empty beer bottles, showing a broad interest in beers. The brewer / owner gave me a tour around the small brewery, even though small was nice and modern equipped. Good value both both for drughts and the bottles i bought for take away.
A little brewery producing wonderful beers close to the Belgian border. Had taken a guided tour (in french ) and as we had to wait we were offered a tasting before the tour and also after the tour. Had an amazing time discussing how craft beer has been developing in France and how Daniel(the brewer and owner) is setting an example for this in France. The beer store sells most of their beers in bottles and serve 3 on tap at the lovely rustic and brown cafe like tasting room. Do try their vielle brune or the new dalva vielle..Absolute crackers !!
Rustique place in a small village close to the Belgium border. They only had two of their beers on tap, but a bigger selection bottled (though not refridgerated). Strange thingwas that such a place had hardly anything to eat, though the sausage we had was good. Most importantly, We had the blonde beer and the IPA and they were both very good.
A comfortable homely spot. It may be in France but it’s only just over the border from Belgian, so it’s an easy hop if you are in the area. Wide range of theor beers to try on draught and in bottle to take away. well woth a stop, especially if they have their sublime Vielle Brune available.

Have been three times now, Daniel Thiriez is a most gracious host and love the Etolie du Nord and the Blonde. At different times have petted the cats, had wet hop beers and even have been there when hops have been growing on the side of the brewery. France’s best brewery for sure.
