64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | May 10, 2013 The comparison to a local Whole Foods is spot on. Its certainly one of the nicest food co-ops I’ve ever visited and thankfully there’s plenty of parking next door. They have about 150 kinds of mainly local and some national craft. They also have some nice prizes lurking. On the day I visited I found a Founder’s doom that I wasnt expecting. But apparently a lot has changed since 2006. They have very little BMC and a strong focus on local product. It’s not a destination place but it’s a pretty solid local. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (521) Montreal, Quebec | May 16, 2005| Updated June 1, 2009 Great specialty food store with a very good Vermont cheese selection, and natural/organic foods. Beer selection is small, but still has a few McNeill’s, Allagash, Stone, and other Vermont micros. I would stop here in case McNeill’s doesn’t have the bottles you’re looking for. But I wouldn’t come here for beer really, more for the cheese and organic products. | 54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 Sammy (464) Toronto, Ontario | July 11, 2007| Updated June 1, 2009 A small selection of beer, though all of the recent 4 offerings of
McNeill, Be sure to buy additional choices at the pub itself (and take the car). Good selection of food accompaniments for beer. Almost everything in the cooler. Almost all, local selection. Closed at 9 pm. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (412) Ottawa, Ontario | August 9, 2009| Updated June 1, 2009 This place has renovated since my last visit, for the better. Similar to Whole Foods, with good cheese, wine and beer selection. A lot of the McNeills, and other Vermont offerings, with good classics, such as Stone, Kasteel, Harpoon, etc...good prices. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | May 29, 2012| Updated June 1, 2009 Of the handful of shops that I checked out in the Brattleboro, this was probably the best. It was nice to be able to grab singles of anything. They had very fair prices and a good assortment of regional, local, and national microbreweries, with a good suite of specialty beers. Don’t expect anything rare, but if you’re camping or hiking and want something decent, this is the place to stop. Plus the food here is fantastic. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 Nate (258) Indiana, Pennsylvania | May 9, 2007| Updated June 1, 2009 Stopped here before heading out of town and grabbed a few bottles to bring back with me. Good selection of McNeill’s - same price per bottle as the brewpub itself. Got a 750mL of Rodenbach Grand Cru for $8.50, which I thought a good deal. Had some Berkshire and just a few other New England beers. Not a huge selection, though. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 muzzlehatch (255) Burlington, Vermont | May 31, 2005| Updated June 1, 2009 Ehhh. You guys are generous! Apart from McNeills, the selection is not very interesting...I can think of at least 3 VT co-ops with better; and the cheese and bread selection leaves something to be desired IMHO. But, I’m very picky when it comes to grocery stores so take it with a grain of salt. You should visit if you have time before/after McNeills, if you care at all about good food and especially if McNeills’ bottled selection at the pub is low. On 2nd thought, maybe I’ll be generous too.. | 46 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 7/20 Cletus (217) Connecticut | January 16, 2006| Updated June 1, 2009 Not sure why this place is even listed. Minus McNeills offerings which you could get fresh up the street, this place just offered your typical macro crap and there are at least 2 other places in the area with a much better selection. A complete waste of time. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 altonbrownd (197) Brussels, Belgium | February 26, 2009| Updated June 1, 2009 Pretty solid selection for what is basically a health-conscious, alternative supermarket in a small town. I’d say there are about 150 different beers, with some good representatives from abroad. But mainly the standouts are Vermont beers, like McNeill’s and Trout River. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 OldGrowth (138) North Carolina | May 16, 2005 Gone here a bunch for McNeills seasonals.Short walk from McNeills. It ’s a full blown grocery store, but all’s I ever ate here was a cookie(it was good). Not a huge selection, but they have the McNeills seasonals that everyone looks for. Few other vermont brewers too. Remember Trout River, Rock Art, Magic Hat, Harpoon/Catamont And Shipyard from Maine. |
