Entering the dark and drab interior of this Franconian gastette felt heavy, and the air seemed unwelcoming. In the early afternoon the room is occupied only by retired folks and those getting off from the early shift. Ceramic and metal steins line the wall near the ceiling, a flat screen television sits awkwardly in the center of a corner table, and the bubbling sounds of deep fried pork and potatoes fill the front of the house. Also there is a poster on the wall memorializing dead Nazis who came from Uehlfeld ( http://i.imgur.com/P3XsOVN.jpg ). The Helles was in horrible shape showing serious infection problems, bad enough that I had to inconspicuously go dump my glass in the Wasserklosett

The slightly larger of the two Uehlfeld breweries: a faceless Gaststube from the 60’s or 70’s, friendly staff, quite well prepared franconian meals (e.g. asparagus with cooked ham)........
Worth a stop !
