May 2013. Several big rooms here, and it is hot inside. Wood paneling and wood tables. I had goulash, which my fiance didn’t care for but I liked. Food and beer are expensive.

I arrived just after 10 am on the day I arrived in Germany. The server rose from his semi-comatose position and said, "Bier?" I said "Bitte." He disappreared for quite some time, then returned with a small wooden cask on a hand trolly, which he racked just inside the front door. He grabbed a mallet and slammed a small spigot into the cask, poured my glass of beer and brough it to my table. I asked if that was the first beer he had served that day. He just smiled and said, "Ganz frisch." A new glass arrived every 10 minutes after that, until I surrendered.

Bit outside of the real (toursitic) centre. Large place with airy inside area, closed of rooms as well as a biergarten. It was rainy crazy though, so we took place in the middle room of which the walls were classically yet classy decorated and most tables were empty, beer menus ready for mosre visitors. Staff was friendly and professional. The Kolsch is (amongst) the best in town, very creamy and just very drinkable. Was too bad we felt leaving back for home. Typical German pub food, but we were full from our earlier Kolsch house visits. Overall a very German experience and very good Kolsch so I have to up my rating just for that. Must visit when in town.

I liked this place. Of course only one beer to choose. Service was pretty good, but did have to wait for refills. Food was pretty good, but not cheap. I would go back 2nd best place I went in the city.

Walked here for lunch one day while staying in Cologne. Very nice place with an old rustic feel. Service was prompt and fairly friendly. Selection... well it is what it is. Food was very good, lots of fatty traditional German food. Prices seemed great. Watching them tap the kegs of Kolsch was great and the beer was so fresh.

Home of my favourite Kolsch! Nice bar/drinking area let down by poor waiter service more than once. Also good as away from the main tourist drag.

Visited on Friday 26/04/13 around 5.30pm and we bagged one of the last two remaining tables.
A medium to large rectangular shaped room awaits you with wooden tables and chairs. The walls are adorned with large mirrors and portraits almost like the hall to a medieval castle.
There was also a smaller smokers room to the side.
The beer is dispensed from a wooden barrel in the hallway as you enter and served by 40/50 year old male waiters to good effect.
Great slice of tradition !
