Visited this place alone after work. I think it was the best bar/restaurant I visited during my week in Cologne. Small place outside of the city center. Nice ambiance, nice music playing during my visit. They had 6 beers on tap and some more bottles available. From food I tried only their pretzel which was great! Service was great too, fast, friendly and very helpful despite the fact that after some point the place was crowded.

Small, but generally very busy, only their own beer available. Service leaves a bit to be desired.

Small brewpub located in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. Easy reachable with the underground lines 3 or 4. They had five different special brews on tap, plus four something which is always available plus some bottled beers (I bought three new beers in the bottle for taking home). The beers were very tasty, typical Braustelle in taste - always very special. The interior is not that appealing, more like a students pub than something to spend the whole evening. The service was very nice, fast and friendly. The food was not really good, more of a disaster. So this place is not recommended for eating, but for drinking the delicious beers. Would come back anytime.

The Braustelle brewpub is newer than the typical traditional Kölsch brewpubs. It looks rather like a worn down dive bar with its own charm. The selection is a bit wider compared to other kölsch brewpubs, due to the Freigeist contributions.

Visited thursday 3rd March .. Nice brewpub just outsider the city centre quite a long walk but you can use the public transport .. It’s a single room with a good space at the bar that is unusual in Germany with 6 taps ( here says 4 but they were more ) from the brewery with interesting style .. We got an unfiltered kolsch , an ibiscus kolsch , an rauch , an cherry porter .. So if you are in town and want to drink something different this is the right place .. The girl and guy behind the bar were friendly and let us to have a sip before to buy a beer .. Did not eat but the plates looked good .. Good place !

Visited on a wednesday night. Nice modern brewpub located outside of Cologne center, but easily accessible with the subway. The place was full, but not overly crowded. The crowd is younger than in the city center Kölsch bars. Ambiance was really nice. Service was great. Super friendly, good English and Sebastian (the brewer of Freigest) even took the time to sit with us and share a beer. Selection is pretty good with a few taps (5 I think?) and some bottles. We just ordered a cheese plate and it was pretty good. The other food I saw looks pretty tasty too. Price are very good for that kind of bar. They let us share a few of our own bottles, which seems to be really uncommon in Germany. It would definitely be my "go to" place if I live in the area. Keep up the good work!

Visited 15/5/14. Out of town and less tradition than most but very popular with lively atmosphere. Excellent unfiltered kolsch, weiss and alt. Also had bottled Maebock & kampot black, very good

To sum up my total experience in one word: Disappointment. I read all the positive reviews and went to this place expecting a german craft beer revelation paired with some delicious food. Instead what my friend and I experienced was a series of average to dishwater with lemon tasting swill and dry reheated, possibly microwaved crap cuisine. The positives were the ambience, service and price however these factors couldn’t quite make up for all the little disasters such as getting the wrong meals. The restaurant was packed - we were the only table eating. The rest of the patrons were only drinking one or two of the 6 styles on offer. I don’t understand why they were so popular, it is possible i caught them on an off day - however I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and I will not be going back.
