86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | October 9, 2011 Don’t underestimate this place by its exterior appearance. Large selection of stuff from the region and around the world. Very friendly and helpful staff. Don’t forget to check in the Beer Cave! That’s where most of the local stuff is, including a bunch of growlers. Great place. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TURDFERGUSON (147) Carrboro, North Carolina | August 16, 2011 Solid place. Good selection of newly released imports, and the ever expanding list of of domestic craft beers available in NC. Dude who owns it apparently keeps some special stuff behind the counter for those in the know. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 17/20 tia (66) Sandston, Virginia | July 28, 2011 Very nice and helpful (and the guys in the lawn mower shop next door where helpful, too, when I locked my keys in the car- if you’re from Charlotte they have good karma from me).
Anyway, I was a little in a rush and this was my first NC store so their selection seemed good and their service was great! I see everyone talking about Mike, but Mike’s mom is great too (and I heard the same from some other Charlotte locals).
Ambiance- no frills. Value- prices not cheap. But definitely seemed like a go-to spot for Charlotte. In fact, this is the type of place I’d go if I lived there- local flavor and neighborhoody. In fact, I am super-excited to find a place to go that’s about three miles from my grandparents’ house! Will be back on my next visit. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 PaulUnwin (96) Pinellas Park, Florida | July 3, 2011 I love small places like this, I would come here rather than go to chain stores. Owner wasn’t there but Miles (think that was his name) was pretty helpful although I knew what I was looking for, and can always use Ratebeer on my phone if I’m not sure right? He found the last 2 bottles of Founders Devil Dancer so I was happy. Spent my weekly pocket money in there and would come back. Sure they could have more beer variety and stock, but if I lived close by I’d probably get most of my beer there. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 msante79 (335) Mount Prospect, Illinois | April 23, 2011 Nice little store. Not the biggest selection, but they have quite a few brews I have not seen elsewhere. Not the best place if your looking for local brews, but you could tell they specialize in bringing in beers that you won’t find at most places. Cooler area had growlers from Green Man and Catawba Valley. What makes this place special is the owner. Michael provided the best service I have ever experienced from a bottle shop. Only picked up a couple of bottles from Olde Hickory and he let me have a free glass. Cool place. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Drake (392) Ivy, Virginia | April 6, 2011 Glad to finally get here after trying for quite a while. Much smaller than I expected, and the parking is commensurate. Tight inside with piles of beer everywhere, which is exactly what I like. That being said, the selection is very nice, with lots of local, US and foreign stuff, including some rarer stuff. Prices are OK, and I got a free glass, which is cool. The will break SOME sixers but not all. Mike the owner was very cool. Nice stop. Definitely recommended. | 58 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 jrallen34 (271) Chicago, Illinois | March 31, 2011 In Charlotte for the weekend so I had to stop by here basef on the reviews. I hate to be critical about a small town place, especially with how awesome Mike the owner was, but this is not a place worth stopping by if you are from out of town. If you live in Charlotte and this is the best you have, then go for it. However, based on beer stores nationally this place is merely average. The selection is average, there are tons of bottles but its basically just all the staples from Belgium, Germany and the US. The regional selection was severely lacking, past the point of disappointment. There was one style of Duck Rabbit, one sytle of Olde Meclenberg then a couple growlers from Catawba. No local 6 packs to go or anything like that at all. There was practically nothing I couldn’t get anywhere else except Cascade Kriek and Sibernain nights. which are awesome. As everyone said Mike is super friendly and I got a free glass too. The selection and quality, probably due to distrubtion just isn’t there. Needs to be stacked with locals IMHO. If your in town for a quick visit don’t bother.
| 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 HaydukeMT (4) Montana | January 28, 2011 Unbeatable selection from singles to kegs, and knowledge to match. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 kbutler1 (79) Minnesota | November 17, 2010 Stopped by while I was down in the area for work after reading reviews of this store. At frist I was hesitant, as from the outside it looks a little ghetto (sorry, it does). I was greeted by a very cordial and friendly gentleman which at this point now I imagine was Mike. He asked if I needed anything in particular and when I told him I was out of town and just visiting, he got really excited and wanted to know what kind of beer I liked and if he could help. He pointed out some good ones and then grabbed a bottle of Terrapin from in back that he didn’t have sitting out.
I ended up grabbing a Faro, some Allagash, and the Terrapin. For being a new customer he also had me grab any glass I wanted...for free!
Does this store have the biggest selection? No, but what it does have is some really good stuff and a friendly atmosphere in which to shop.
I would stop by here again at anytime. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 16/20 annapolisbeer (4) San Diego, California | June 16, 2010 Hands down best beer store in Charlotte, NC. They look for rarities and are very knowledgeable. |
