(Visited 10/2008): Breakwater Brewing is located not too far from the Oceanside in Oceanside, CA off I-5. It is on Hill Street about a block away from Mission Ave, and there is a lot of street parking available.
The brewpub (although a bar at the time of my visit - they do not have any of their own beers yet due to some kind of wrangling with the city according to the bartender) has a horizontal layout, with the bar running most of the length of it. There is some booth/table seating as well, and several flat screen TVs around. Their beer list is on a chalkboard behind the bar.
Breakwater has a pretty good selection of guest draughts, with taps representing Ballast Point, Mad River, Stone, Rogue, and Victory among others. I did not see a bottle list so I am not sure what is represented there.
Service was good on a weekday evening. The bartender who also works at Oggiís was familiar with their beers and made good recommendations.
I tried the BBQ Chicken pizza for dinner and it was very good.
All in all this place has potential, especially once they have their own brews available. Even so, despite the plain Jane atmosphere it is a good place to check out.

Iím biased as I live in OíSide but Iíve always found at last 2-3 quality beers on tap when Iíve stopped in for a beer. The food is basic but tasty and the prices are fair. Good natured, working folks crowd and friendly staff. I never was too impressed by the beer they make but to be honest I did not try it a great deal and I do believe there has been some turn over in brewers,

The most disspaointing place during my visit to San Diego, this place has about 20 beers, ass made on the premises. I had a Sour fruit beer which was quite lame. I wanted to try some of theother beers, but the ABVs were too high for 11am.

Really nice draft beer selection includes maybe a dozen of their beers and two dozen or so guest beers. Lots of different styles represented in both the house and guest beers with some harder to find stuff and one sadly over-worked Coors Light tap. The quality of the house beers is top notch and the pizza I had was very good as well. Good, friendly service too. This could pass as another Pizza Port location if it was more surfing themed. The tap selection rivals PP Carlsbad. I will definitely be adding this to my list of places I try to frequent when Iím in southern California.

An interesting coastal brewpub. Some really creative beers served with really good pizza and sandwiches. I wasnít too happy with the service - order your food at the bar and then go sit down. It come out in a weird order, and then you donít really get anyone to come and check on you. You have to get back up to refill your water, or order another beer. Also, seemed hard to get a beer order in at the bar when the place was filling up. Lots of families and TVs playing various sports.

Stopped there on the way from San Diego.
Nice little place on coastal highway.
Inside is like a pizza parlor with a long bar, few tables. Laid back atmosphere, feels like young surfer town with people actually riding their bikes in the brewry, had 10 of their beers on tap, plus about same # of other crafts beers.
Food choice was mostly of pizzas (had Buffalo chicken), which tasted great though pricey for the size. Only bad note is the service, with a waitress who seemed more interested in having her own chat with her friends than coming to the table. It always felt like I was asking too much, until I cashed out, then she promptly came to my table.
I hate lousy service.

This is a nice laid back place near the beach. The house beers where not on tap yet, but they had a nice mixed selection of both local brews and common micros. A few bar seats and tables, pretty small, but relaxed. Fair prices and they have specials on certain days of the week. I am looking forward to trying some of their brew.

First microbrew to hit downtown oíside. Kirk and Shannon have both done a nice job at transforming this into a kick-ass place to chill after a quick surf sess @ the pier. Food is grinding and thereís a nice selection of different grub. Beers on tap are nicely rotated with good Belgians, IPAs, a style to fancy one and all. Cool long bar, surf/skate vids+ Once Kirk gets brewing thereís gonna be some sick beers coming from these walls, (fred back from the dead, HOPEFULLY!!!) People are laid back and are pretty in the know on their taps. Itís nice to see something in oíside dítown and I know theyíre going to do very well with this endevour. word is born~

I stopped in for lunch on my way to San Diego. Interior, tables, and chairs are fairly plain. There are windows all along the front, making it a nice spot to people watch if you eat at the table. House brews were not online, but they had a nicely selected tap list that was reasonably priced. Pizza was just ok (Pizza Port is better), and a tad expensive. The 10 buffalo chicken pizza (more like BBQ) and a Diet Coke was $13. Thatís an expensive lunch in my book. Beer selection and upcoming house brews (from former PP brewer) makes this place worth checking out.

Went with my wife and son and got a tasty thin crust pepperoni and mushroon pizza. Pizza is better here than some places, because of the thin crust option that I like. I canít wait until they start brewing. I heard they are allowed to use the name Frank when they start making their IPA. I gave the selection a 10, but I think it will grow to 13 pretty quickly when they start brewing and adding more taps.
