I love supporting local, independent stores in Tempe. However, I will never shop at, support, or recommend this store again. I am a new customer and new to brewing. I went to this store and bought supplies that I needed to start my first few small batches of home brew and later decided that I didnít need 2 of the 1 gallon glass jugs that I purchased. I went to return them today and was told that "all sales are final." The worker even called the owner, Jeffrey, to find out if the bottles could be returned. The bottles still had the original store price tag and sticker and had obviously not been used. The store also had the record of my transaction in the computer. The owner refused to allow the worker to return the product which could have been placed right back onto the shelves without any problem. I would have understood the policy if it had been yeast or some other perishable product. This is a terrible policy for any store. This place just lost ALL of my future business over a $12 return. Iím glad that I can find all of the supplies I need for future brewing on Amazon. Oh and guess what, Amazon is cheaper AND backs ALL of their products! I refuse to support a business that doesnít have reasonable customer service policies.

Never understood the endearing fondness for Brewersí Connection. On my first couple of visits, employees attempted to rectify some things I was trying to purchase. One of the items had been a 5 pound bag of peated malt: one employee, backed up by a slightly taller carbon copy to his right, said that 5 pounds of peated malt was "too much for one batch", and "you should buy it in smaller quantities." I explained that I was only going to use a .5 pound of the peated malt and save the additional 4.5 pounds for future projects. Weirdly, none of the workers believed me and repeated their advice a second time. I have always felt as if I were being treated like a child here: you canít open the fridge and browse for hop selections, yeast packs, or mill your own grain beyond the shelves in back. That charmingly is the "employees only" section, which I found aggravating to say the least, considering they brought back wrong the yeast twice. Iím not against their policy, Iím against the fact youíre supposed to already know that youíre not allowed to survey goods on your own. Many homebrew stores allow this, even other stores in Arizona, so it should have been brought up as soon as I walked in the door. If you open the fridge yourself, they give you these cripplingly disappointed looks, the same ones that your father gave you throughout your waking teenage years. I like that they stay open literally until 7 PM (I came here at 6:59 PM and they still had the open plugin flashing in the front window), but enjoying this particular homebrew store has not been easy. Location is an odd one: itís stationed in in a plaza that shares the same lot as a Korean restaurant, a porn shop, and bar that serves tea and blasts indie music. Can be fun.

I admittedly havenít been in many homebrew shops, as Iíve only recently started the hobby. However, I can say the my experiences here have always been excellent. Always welcoming. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They seem to have just about anything you would want, and would get something in for you if you requested it. No reason to go elsewhere.

The best place to get brewing supplies in the valley, in my opinion. Love the way you can order your grain bill online, and the staff is always helpful.
