It’s located a few minutes’ walk from the train station, turning right when leaving the station. As many other Market Town Taverns it has a classic-modern and well-preserved outlook. Good selection of eight cask ales, two hand-pulled ciders and another eight beers on keg. I had a few freshly homemade cheese sandwiches for lunch which tasted fine with the pub’s well-kept ales. The keg and cask ales are done in thirds. Friendly service from a smiling girl. I stayed here much longer than planned due to the relaxing atmosphere and variety of beers (visited 10.07.2014).

The Brigantes Bar has a good relaxed feel, it was handy for the return back from York Beer Festival, it was warm and cosy. Wood floor and furniture, more comfortable than it sounds, light and airy. The beers were a good range and well served. A must return to pub.

Nice bar and restaurant, with a kind of bare wooden look to it. Friendly service, a good choice of both bottled and cask beer. The food menu looked good, but the actual food was unimpressive. They had air-conditioning in the restaurant part, which was welcome as we were there during a heat wave, but they had it on too much, so it was freezing cold in the restaurant (and probably OK in the rest of the pub). Anyway, no music (thank you!), and overall a nice place.

City pub near one of the big citygates. Cosy pub with friendly staff, beers in good condition. Nice view on the old part of town, Eating area in the back, didn´t have any, but it looked great..

A pleasant relaxed bar with ten hand pumps, eight keg taps, a gravity feed cider box and 30 or so bottles.
The Brigantes is in the upper part of Micklegate, just a short walk from the city centre and quite close to the York Brewery. From the outside it looks like an old shop front, with large picture windows. The main bar is quite light and airy, with a wooden floor, booths and wooden tables. At the back, down a couple of steps, there’s a carpeted room with booths and low stools. There’s also a room upstairs. On the walls there are neatly arranged pump clips and a good collection of beer and brewery posters.
The beer selection was very good and the service friendly. The menu also looked nice (hearty meals plus sandwiches, burgers and paninis) although we didn’t eat there.

Nice bar up away from the main parts of town. Loads of selection having just added their 10th tap, and an extensive "connoisseurs" bottle list means there’s usually something for everyone to enjoy. Nice mellow atmosphere and enough spacing that it feels a little private and away from it all. Menu looked good, but we didn’t have a chance to sample, but other than that - lovely!
