Long lines, you need to buy tokens in the front rather than just paying for a beer at the counter, and often overrun with obnoxious Brooklyn hipsters, but still a pretty fun place.

Hipsters are taking over the beer scene! Have always loved coming here, but recently it has been getting harder to deal with the crowd. Great beer, and a nice concept of purchasing wooden tokens for beer. Get in early, and donít even think of trying to get a table....

Brooklyn Brewery is located on N 11th in Brooklyn not too far from the river. The large brick building has multiple access points from outside.
The entrance for the brewery tours opens to a waiting area with a small merch booth and a view of pretty much the entire brewery. There is a large beer garden with picnic tables and bar adjacent to it. Interesting art installations in the beer garden, with a walk up bar that has a large chalkboard behind it listing all the beers. There is a cooler behind the bar as well with bottled offerings.
The brewery has 10 or 11 draught offerings, with a few standard Brooklyn beers like East IPA, Blast! and of course the Lager. Some more rare and seasonal stuff like Hammarby Syndrome, Sun Donít Shine, 1/2 Pils and 1/2 Ale during my visit. The beers were all above average.
Service at the merch booth, during the tour and at the bar was all good. These people are obviously passionate about the brand and everyone was friendly and answered questions. My colleague and I lucked out and got the last two openings for the tour we took, and I understand the place gets crazy during peak times but we didnít have to wait to use any of our tokens.
This place does not serve food to my knowledge.
All in all, brewery tours are pretty much the same everywhere but Brooklyn does a great job all around and I would definitely visit again on future visits to NYC.

Iím not sure why the ratings for Brooklyn Brewery are so low (if you read the reviews they are mostly positive). I realize not everyone likes the atmosphere...but hey...this is a brewery...and youíre drinking "in" the brewery! I remember coming here many yearís ago...when they were only open for tastings on a Friday night...there were literally no amenities...and the closest thing to a table was a piece of plywood on 2 saw horses! Yes it gets crowded (plan ahead/come early)...but thatís because their beers are so freakin good...especially the special beers often only available here. Garrett Oliver is a pioneer and leader in the craftbeer movement...I respect what heís accomplished and a visit here is time well spent for the true craft beer fan...and a bit of a pilgrimage...

It was worth leaving Manhatten for a few hours to visit here. The staff are great and the brewery tour was worth it.

Was there on a Saturday afternoon, and it was insane. I got lucky, line was only maybe 20 deep, but 5 mins later was running maybe 100 deep. My low-ish score for Service has nothing to do with the actual staff, they were fine, just the hassle of having to stand in line to buy tokens, then stand in line again to buy beer. And the token line is the same line to buy merch which sucks. Iím assuming the dual lineup for tokens is to get around a law of some kind, so maybe this isnít even anything Brooklyn can do about it directly, but at least have more staff to handle the lines. Anyway, still a cool spot loaded with people sitting at communal tables. Be in no rush to go back, but glad I went once.

An original pit-stop. The main room is like a hangar/gymnasium with spread out picnic tables. You can drink fresh beers on tap by buying $4 tokens at a separate kiosk, certainly a way of doing things to avoid some kind of restrictive law. I will not forget the big cat laying on the token booth, seems to be some kind of mascot of the place. As for the beer they had 8 taps. Those are obviously ultra-fresh beers and a fresh Brooklyn Blast on tap is never a bad experience. They are however serving the beers in plastic glasses, that sucks. Then there is also the tour of the brewery. Note that THIS IS NOT Brooklyn brewery main installation. If Iím not mistaken this is the original brewery but nowadays, 95%+ of the production is done at a large out of town facility. This smaller set-up is still used to brew the more experimental and smaller batches. Tour guide was a brewer and even though his presentation didnít go into much details he was happily answering more geeky questions that the more knowledgeable people were asking. Overall a really worthwhile and original pit-stop, a fun change of pace while touring the beer places in Brooklyn. Really worth visiting once, but not a place I will go back to.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon while visiting NYC. $20 for 5 12 oz beers. Did the free tour which was fun. No food, but a pizza food truck was parked outside and appeared to be very popular. My only complaint is that at times the line for a beer was about 75 people deep. Lots of fun, but be prepared for crowds.

Visited on Sat. afternoon. Missed the tour and went straight to the tasting room. Great selection of the brewery beers (of courseÖ), including fresh brews that were not listed yet on ratebeer. Price is $5 a pint (or 5 for $20), no food but you can order in. Nice ambiance, I liked the place.
