Visited on a Friday afternoon, just before the movie started in the neighbouring Kinepolis movie theatre. Really nice and cozy feeling bar, spacious, clever looking bar made out of a large copper brew kettle, lots of wood and beer-stuff in the interior. Service was slow and uninterested, but the beer selection was decent and prices were fair I guess. Would have liked to stay a bit longer.

We visited Bierhuis De Brouuwzaele Thursday 30th June 2016. It is an atmospheric bar that occupies a junction of two roads and is situated close by the canal, itís also very close to Der Planck and De Geus van Gent, however this has more favourable opening hours so it got the nod from us.

Itís a good trek from the centre if going by foot however you can break the journey up by stopping off at Cafť Vooruit (we did).It seemed quiet on entering but looking around there were a few people in here. I love the use of an old top of a Copper (brewing vessel) that covers a large section of the bar, apparently this was from Inbev. There is a lot of wood here with wooden floors covered with a smattering of very fine silver sand, I have to say I thought at first it was salt but apparently Loz said itís sand. This is a much bigger bar than it looks from the outside, people were sat reading papers or chatting quietly it had a lovely peaceful vibe, on this occasion I am glad we sat inside (tables and chairs still a little wet outside) as I donít think that weíd of got a good feel for this place otherwise.

The beer list is really quite large, I was very impressed there was an awful lot to choose from here and I could easily see a few beers new to me. The chap serving was very friendly and seemed a nice guy, we really liked this place and would definitely recommend it and weíll certainly return here.

Nice selection. Perfectly poured the St Bernardus. Prices are OK for most beers. Update: visited again in november 2015. Prices got high! Tsjeeses! 6,7 euro for a Rochefort 10? Any ways, still costly. Service as it should be. Selection above average.

Havenít been here for several years but if it still the same as I remember it: attractive beer place, centered around a brewing kettle, and serving a fairly extensive range of Belgian beers, mostly of Flemish family brewers, with no real rarities. Iíd recommend this only if youíve been to the movies round the corner and want to grab some classic Belgian ale before leaving. Service is okay.

Bar with a nice interior. Beer list is quiet long but nothing exceptional, only the standard Belgian beers. Prices are ok.

Very nice and friendly beer cafť, rustic yet sober, with a nice outside area along one of the canals. Very good beer list, though not exceptional. Service was good. Well worth a visit if you are in the hood.

Part of the back route between station and center that runs along the Muinkschelde canal. Near the Planck, so easy to see them both. Main feature is an old brewing copper than hangs over the bar. Well-worn place, cozy enough. Was unable to resist the dried sausages hanging by the bar; very glad I gave in. Enjoyed a very pleasant Orval aged 18 months.

Nice old fashioned typical Belgian looking cafe. Solid if slightly uninspiring selection but there will always be something to have. Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and it was quiet enough for my group to get a good seat. Prices were ok, not cheap, but not expensive. Definitely a good stop on a Ghent tour. Didnít try the food, but it looked quite nice.

You average Belgian bar. The beer list is maybe a bit longer, but nothing very thrilling or original. Usually the place to go after a movie if the boat cafť opposite the theatre is closed. Last time we went there, I ordered a beer which was listed cheaper than you would expect. When the check came, the price was higher. After arguing with the waiter, he would not lower the price, "because it has been manually changed on all the menus" and he showed us some menus where the price was indeed changed with ball point. Except on our menu, and as they always have to charge the lowest price advertised, they should charge us that one. The waiter however did not want to do this. Afterwards I went to see if there was a manager, but there wasnít. So I decided to take the menu with me and mail the place. Only then the waiter was prepared to accept the price on the menu. So: service was bad. Alas.

MESSAGE FOR FOREIGNERS VISITING GENT: if you read this, youíre probably planning a visit to Belgium, and Gent in particular. Iím always interested to get to know other ratebeerians, and if you come from an interesting country, we can maybe to an in person beer trade? Contact me!
