Visited on National Hamburger Day. Only the US could have such a stupid thing like that. Looks like this place used to be an old fountain/pharmacy sort of thing. Medium sized countertop bar to the left. Open space. Brewhouse visible behind glass. Order food from the kitchen straight ahead. Or order food from the bar, which is what I did. Burgers are small but filling and very creative. My veggie burger was a polenta burger with tasty toppings and sauce, first time Iíve seen that. Lots of students drinking massive towers of beer. Everyone else had pints. They have pre-filled crowlers of a small selection of their beers, and growlers of almost everything. Friendly staff. Worth a stop.

Ate and drank here a couple of times while in town on business. Sat at the bar for a while and then in the little back alcove to watch the World Cup, and service was good in both areas. While itís more of a hipster/family burger joint that collided with a small brewery, thatís completely fine with me. Itís really unpretentious, they locally source many products and the beef is grass-fed. I even sampled some locally produced dog-food made from the spent grain, and it was pretty tasty. However what irritated me is the "artisanal burgers" that are "cooked to order". Both times I couldnít order a medium-rare burger. Both times, they insisted that it MUST BE either rare or medium, but not medium-rare. WTF? If I prefer half-bloody burgers to full bloody or burnt, whatís the big deal burger artiste? I can get a m-r burger at any number of places that charge less and they taste better than yours. But now Iíll simmer down from my burger rant and get to the most important thing, since this is ratebeer. The overall saving grace for this place rating is the beer. The 4 beers I had were pretty good overall and they seem to have a decent rotating variety, based on 2 visits 3 weeks apart. The service tried to do as best they could, and prices were reasonable. The duck fat fries were greasy, floppy and a bit tasteless compared to other places where Iíve indulged, but the two different burgers I had were decent, if unmemorable.

Had a great time here last night, closing the place down. Barley wine was solid, as was the porter. Pale ale, IPA and amber were ok, but the you go there for the food and interesting atmosphere. Burger was very good.

burger was VERY good, beer was OK. IPA was prettygood, bitters were ok. Duke U heavy crowd, busy place, did i say Burgers rocked. Come for the burger & enjoy a few local pints

Very awesome addition to the Triangle craft beer scene- a very casual artisanal burger place cum brewpub in a well-lit, nice part of downtown Durham. Picnic benches for seating so sit with randos. Burgers were excellent, smaller, good size though, with awesome toppings like roasted Poblano peppers. You can get tons of free sides so go wild. Their chimichuri was nuts! Pickle chips were also very good. The duck frites were so thin though it was hard to use them for dipping, and they cooled down to room temperature so fast from exposed surface area :( Tasty still. I order the burger rare, and it was more ímediumí Iíd say. And with such high quality ground beef (local, grassfed) you can definitely go straight up rare as hell so I was a bit sad about that. Beers were pretty good, nothing really that I ílikedí and a couple on tap were big misses. But it is a fun, passionate, experimenting brewery and you can get samples of everything for super cheap so hard to complain. Growler fills were similarly very cheap, they unfortunately will only fill their own growlers :/ but the glass deposit is like $5 and fills were something like $7-10. Very cheap. Will be back. Had a blast. Oh, the food came out wickedly fast!

Great atmosphere inside with the brewery to the right, behind glass, a picnic-style seating area in the center of the main space, and a nice bar to the left. In the back, behind the brewery, is an alcove well-suited to small parties. Very casual, well-lit, very clean. Lots of recycled materials, bamboo counter-tops, etc.
Service has always been excellent at the bar, and all the employees are warm and friendly.
The food is fantastic - focusing on build-your-own burgers and dogs. A great deal of the menu is sourced from local and state-wide farms. The burgers are delicious, pasture-raised beef. Great selection of toppings that compliment each-other. Great appetizers (especially the pickle chips... oh god, get those). The aioli, BCBB sauce, and the Ghost of Rogerís Alley hot sauce are all fantastic.
The beer selection is limited to what they brew in-house, but I have never been disappointed. Bartlettís Ordinary Bitter and the Bryant Bridge Gateway Ale pair exceptionally well with the appetizer lineup and the burgers. The Boars Russian Imperial Stout and the lemon pound cake (make sure to get it with the spicy chocolate sauce) is a fantastic finisher for the meal.
Seven bucks for a grass-fed NC burger (figure around $10 if you get a bunch of toppings), great daily specials, interesting monthly specials, solid beer lineup. The full bar also offers a few single malts, Titoís vodka, and other solid staples. Thereís also a good wine selection and a great self-serve Enomatic system.
Seven taps and a beer engine for their small-batch experimental stuff (which is always interesting - I think they have a dry-hopped bitter coming up).
Overall, the local menu items and the grass-fed beef burgers are the strong point, with the microbrews not far behind. I have never left disappointed... or even remotely unimpressed, even. It has always been great.

Interesting place. Was in the area to visit family and we all went there on a Monday night. For an out of towner it wasnít the easist place to find, but well worth the effort. Very nice bar to the left and picnic tables to the right. You can order food at the bar, or they have a walk up window to order and it will be brought to you. The people were very friendy, beer was good and the service fine. And that was easily the best burger I had in a long long time!

Went here for lunch yesterday and quite enjoyed it. The food was pretty high quality, and the bartender working was a really cool dude. I was a little disappointed that they only have five selections (at least, when I was there), and three of them were fairly average. The other two I did enjoy, especially their Harvest brew. Very chill and laid-back location.

Dropped in for a flight. Younger crowd. Decent service and prices. Will stop in to eat next time.
